Job Description : Choosing Our Roots (COR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with the mission to ensure that all queer Alaskan youth and young adults have access to safe homes, supportive communities, and opportunities to thrive. COR currently provides services in Anchorage, the MatSu Valley, the Kenai Peninsula and Bethel. COR is now seeking a part-time bookkeeper to assist the Treasurer with QuickBooks accounting system.COR offers a flexible and collaborative work environment with a deep connection to mission. As part of this hardworking and joy-filled team of both staff and volunteers, you would be helping to create safety, community, and opportunity for homeless and marginally housed youth. For more information on COR, visit www.choosingourroots.org.Location: Flexible within the state of AlaskaSchedule: 8-12 hrs/wk, flexible scheduleResponsibilities and DutiesUnder the direction of COR’s Treasurer and/or Finance Committee Chairperson, the bookkeeper enters accounting data to QuickBooks and provides support to COR’s Treasurer and Board of Directors to complete and process finance requirements. Specific duties include:Enter all deposits including individual and corporate contributions, federal, state and private foundation grants, and miscellaneous receipts such as in-kind donations, fundraisers, etc.Process invoices and electronic bills for program expenditures including allocating expenses to appropriate grants and classes.Identify and record all debit card transactions to appropriate account and funding source.Enter monthly stipends for youth and host homes.Organize accounting records for data entered in QuickBooks.Provide reports and necessary documentation to assist with grant proposals and contracts.Assist Treasurer as needed with monthly financial reports for Board information and miscellaneous reports to monitor financial condition and budget status.Assist Treasurer and Finance Committee with preparation of the annual budget.Reconcile QuickBooks donations each month with Finance Chairperson’s monthly donation records from a separate database.Assist with special projects or research for grant applications as directed by Finance Committee Chairperson or Treasurer.Attend staff meetings (approx. twice/month) in order to maintain smooth flow of communication within the staff team.Occasional attendance at Board and Finance Committee meetings is strongly recommended, though not required.Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by COR Board of Directors.Skills and AbilitiesPrior experience with bookkeeping a must.Proficiency with QuickBooks for nonprofits required.Experience with Excel or similar spreadsheet program.Strong organizational and analytical skills to manage priorities and workflows.Good interpersonal skills to work with diverse individuals.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.Ability to work independently.Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent with at least three years’ related experience or combination of education and experience.Alignment with COR’s mission (stated above) and core principles: Dignity & Respect, Empowerment, Cultural Relevancy, Community, Hope.In order to be considered complete, an application MUST include a resume and a cover letter.
