Job Summary
Business Career Services (BCS) in the David Eccles School of Business is seeking two instructors/career coaches to teach the BCOR 1010 – Career Exploration course. This course is an integral part of the Eccles students’ curriculum as they embark on the career development process. Class activities emphasize career self-assessment, career exploration, academic and career decision-making, and goal setting. The instructor assists students to research careers and match their careers with their skills. This course will teach students how to choose a career pathway.
Several sections of BCOR 1010 are taught throughout the semester to approximately 1200 students. The instructor is then the students’ assigned Career Coach in BCS and will meet individually and, in a group, setting, depending on students needs to guide them through the career exploration process while they complete the course.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
The Instructor/Career Coach will be expected to:
1. Develop or update the class syllabus in collaboration with other instructors;
2. Teach assigned class sessions;
3. Use Canvas according to College guidelines and expectations;

4. Assess the extent to which each student has met learning objectives;
5. Assign grades to each student;
6. Implement College and program policies;
7. Keep Program staff informed of student progress and issues that arise
8. Meet with other instructors who teach the same class on a regular basis;
9. Maintain regular office hours either in person or by phone or videoconference.
10. Counsels BCOR students in the discovery and decision-making process of selecting a career.
11. Guides BCOR students through self-assessments, identifies available resources and assists students with career research.
12. Interact with BCS Corporate Outreach to identify appropriate industry and employers to introduce to BCOR students as well as promote planned events throughout the semester.

Problem Solving
Counselors must solve complex problems which relate to counseling individual students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. These individuals are making life-changing choices. The resolution comes in the form of understanding and utilizing available resources to research options and provide individualized solutions.
Counselors are involved in hiring and personnel decisions. They make decisions regarding the appropriateness of employer’s requests for job postings and interview schedules. Each counselor must be knowledgeable of employment laws and ethical standards for hiring and recruiting. Decisions are based on the adopted standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science, Communication, Counseling, Human Resources or a related field plus three years of experience in occupational or career counseling or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in a related area is preferred. Training and experience in basic testing and measurement is preferred. Experience with career counseling in the assigned area may also be preferred.
