Americus, Georgia is located in Sumter County in southwest Georgia 132 miles from Atlanta and nine miles from Plains, the home of America’s 39th President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Jimmy Carter.
The City of Americus operates under the City Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority are vested in the governing body which consists of a Mayor and six council members all elected on a nonpartisan basis. Council members serve four-year staggered terms, with three council members elected every two years. The Mayor is elected at large to serve a four-year term. The six council members are elected by district. The governing body is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget and appointing the City Manager, Municipal Court Judge and the City Attorney. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the governing body and for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the government.

Job Description
The City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of City Clerk.
The beginning salary for this position is $ 48,275.00 annually ($23.21 hourly).
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the City Clerk, your primary responsibilities would include serving as the official custodian of city records; Providing administrative, secretarial, and clerical support to the City Manager, Mayor and City Council, including preparing agendas for, coordinating, attending and recording of the monthly Agenda Setting and City Council meetings, and various other meetings as required. You would also be responsible for procurement of goods and services through competitive bids or proposals as required by the City’s Purchasing Policy, including annual contracts for outside services; Serving as primary contact/ liaison between the city’s administrative services division and the general public, City Manager and departments, staff members, City officials, community leaders, outside agencies, or other individuals or organizations for the distribution and receipt of routine information; interacting with various officials and dignitaries involving sensitive client relations and maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all matters, reports and information pertaining to offices of the City Manager, Mayor and Council and all departments of the City.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
This position requires an Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in business, public administration, municipal government or a closely related field; it also requires four years’ experience in public administration, business or closely related experience.
