Position : Communications Coordinator
Job Description : Summary:
This position is responsible for developing and implementing written external communications at the Alaska SeaLife Center to assist in strengthening the Center s identity and reputation. Must believe in the core values of the ASLC and be driven by the mission.
Education/Training Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media or similar field and minimum of two years experience or the equivalent.
Essential Duties:
Creates written materials for a variety of communication vehicles such as feature stories, visitor and membership newsletters/emails, annual report, brochures, insider news, and special events.
Assists with all social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), following all protocols established by the Marketing and Communications Department. This will include monitoring activity, responding to public comments, and helping to grow online support.
Works with all departments, including Development, Education, Husbandry, Wildlife Response, and Research, to develop and refine story and messaging concepts for external communications.
Creates well-written copy that is free from mistakes.
Maintains an up-to-date digital presence across multiple platforms, such as Google Business, TripAdvisor and Yelp for hour changes, etc.
Creates digital and social media analytic reports to help strategize needs of the department.
Works both independently and with a team in recognizing needs and making recommendations for messaging and public relations.
Assists with Media email account and uses development databases and platforms to ensure communications with targeted audiences.
Collaborates with Marketing and Development staff to develop marketing and promotional plans and collateral.
Works with Department to oversee website including crafting of new content and images as well as updates to existing content.
Supports the Department in other areas of marketing, sales and events as requested.
Represents the Center at external meetings or events as requested.
Maintains a valid driver s license. Travels within Alaska as needed.
Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Outstanding copywriting and copyediting abilities.
Adept and persuasive communication skills in a variety of styles and formats.
Articulate, well-spoken individual capable of effectively representing the organization to various audiences.
Knowledge of marketing, public relations, project planning and implementation, and advertising strategies. Mac or PC literate with experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite is helpful.
Be a flexible team player that can work independently with minimal supervision when needed.
