General funds, to begin approximately August 2022, contingent on satisfactory performance, operational needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month, as operational needs are required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, design, deliver, and assess instruction in courses including Fashion design and technology; Develop, update, and expand program curricula, materials, and assessment strategies to:
Integrate creative thinking and problem-solving skills into course content, as appropriate;
Address current and emerging workforce needs;
Develop opportunities for collaborative projects with other campus degree programs and industry partners; design meaningful work-based opportunities for students through internships and employment.
Related activities include, but are not limited to, developing an approved program of professional self-improvement; maintaining at least one office hour per week for each course taught; curriculum development, course scheduling, operational budgets, student advising; identifying student learning needs and implementing constructive responses to them; planning, organizing, and independently carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
Maintain subject matter currency and be willing to continually update courses to keep up with college and student needs.
Develop and maintain relationships with industry professionals through the College’s program advisory council.
Teach face-to-face, hybrid and online courses which may be scheduled during the days, evenings, or weekends as part of regular workload.
Work under the guidance of colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs and student learning outcomes in the discipline.
Must maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
May include instructional assignments involving distance education and noncredit.
Commitment to community colleges principles and philosophy is essential. The College emphasizes the “open door” concept, works to ensure student success, and serves a diverse student and community population.
Must be available for evening, weekend, and off-campus teaching assignments (e.g. military bases). To teach on a military base, Department of Defense security clearance will be required. May require background check to teach at DOE school.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Fashion; or
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion plus three (3) of years of related work experience; or
Associate Degree in Fashion plus five (5) years of related work experience; or
15 college credits plus seven (7) years of related work experience including training.
Desirable Qualifications:
Two years of full-time teaching at the community college level.
Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
Two years of work experience related to course(s) to be taught/
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Familiarity with Hawai’i’s Fashion Design Industry.
Ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.
Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its open-door and multicultural populations.
Experience working with high schools and high school students.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with students, staff, faculty, and community groups.
Experience in use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software.
A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
