Job Description : K-8 Resource Teacher*Island School (ischool.org) seeks a K-8 ResourceTeacher with a commitment to private education in a college preparatory environment. The K-8 Resource Teacher has the responsibility of providing support for students with learning differences and/or who need learning support to get to grade level. The resource teacher will participate in classroom instruction as needed, including direct one-on-one and small group instruction.They work closely with division directors, the faculty, and school counselors. The position is full time and begins in late July for the 2022-2023 academic year. *Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of 420+ students. The high school offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum. Island School is located on the island of Kaua’i, the northernmost inhabited island of the Hawaiian Island chain, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the “Garden Island.”The K-8 Resource Teacher will partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with different learning styles and teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs and focusing on bringing students to grade level in literacy and math skills. The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching upper elementary and middle school, and hold a minimum of a B.A. in education or a related field. 2+ years of relevant teaching experience in a non-profit, independent school preferred.Minimum Qualifications include: *B.A. degree in Education, or a related field3+ years of teaching experienceKnowledge of literacy and math instruction and skills specific to remediation.Understanding of differentiated instructional strategies across the curriculum**Island School offers a great amount of freedom, flexibility, and collaboration to its faculty.
