Job Description : KIKUCHI ARCHIVIST – ID# 222176.Kaua‘i Community College. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Kaua‘i Community College (Kauaʻi CC), located in Līhuʻe, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.DUTIES: Designs and establishes the Kikuchi Center, digitizes the Kikuchi Collection, catalogs physical and digital materials, and develops displays highlighting the Kikuchi collection in the library. Promotes the digital collection and resources to local community collaborators, Department of Education (DOE) and the entire ten (10) college University of Hawai’i (UH) System. Leads the development of online modules that faculty can imbed into curricula. Assists with procurement of materials and equipment, including eBooks and Native Hawaiian books. Guides interns to assist with archiving the collection, promotes the digital collection and resources to the entire ten (10) college UH System, leads the development of online modules that faculty can imbed into curricula, assists with procurement of materials and equipment, including eBooks and Native Hawaiian books, collects data to report on the progress of grant objectives and activities, and collaborates with the project coordinator and Principal Investigator (PI) on all aspects of grant management.PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Archival Studies or Master’s Degree from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) in Library Science. (Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university and at least two (2) years of equivalent experience may substitute for a Master’s Degree.).EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years of professional experience working with special collections and/or archives, which includes at least one (1) year of experience with event planning, community programming, or other relevant coordination of functions for a cultural heritage collection. Experience with applying standards for description and preservation of special collections holdings, such as, but not limited to, MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging), EAD (Encoded Archival Description) and/or MODS (Metadata Object Description Schema).ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and database programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture and cultural considerations to be applied in an archaeology collection applying traditional knowledge and restrictions through experience or coursework. Demonstrated knowledge of current archival standards, vocabularies and management systems and an understanding of emerging technologies and preservation strategies. Ability to communicate both simple and complex ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of patrons serving Asian American and Pacific Islanders within a professional context. Must be accurate, detail-oriented, and possess effective verbal and written communication skills. Good organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in a diverse team.
