Women’s sport is a serious topic, but celebrating female runners is one of joy.We are looking for a News Editor for Outside’s Women’s Running brand to be the leader in reporting the latest news, developments, changes and challenges of the women’s running arena. This is a strong position for a talented and meticulous reporter and writer with strong connections and contacts in the running industry.The News Editor will plan, organize, and deliver the latest news, race coverage and women’s running experiences in order to build and grow the voice and impact of Women’s Running in the media space.This high profile role is an exciting opportunity to be a front-line voice for Women’s Running news reporting and will be a top advocate for women in the sport, their achievements, and be part of the mission of moving the needle in reporting on and coverage of women’s sport.Please provide portfolio or writing samples with applicationWithin 1 month, you will:You will work with a diverse team of editorial, product, marketing, and social partners to understandManage and edit daily news, special news storiesWork within a creative environment to respond to various competing prioritiesEvaluate all news for authenticity and check with sources to ensure correctness of published articles to avoid conflictsWithin 6 months, you will:Own women’s running news from all anglesBe comfortable writing, assigning, and editing longer-lead news storiesDrive engagement in timely news coverage as well as discovering the little known stories and impact of female athletes and their journeys.You will ensure that news projects are completed on schedule, within the project budget, and to the scope established and agreed upon with key stakeholders and product owners.Take responsibility for ensuring that your news reporting will deliver results in the form of increased engagement and social growth of Women’s Running. This will be achieved by delivering value to our audience by unique and engaging content in the correct tone for digital, print, and social channels.Monitor and use social media, nonlinear and alternative storytelling strategies to widen readership base.Within 12 months, you will:Prepare reports for content reach and engagement, report on current news trends and be versed in how to bring in new readers and sustain existing readers.Monitor and use social media, nonlinear and alternative storytelling strategies to widen readership base.Work within creative environment to respond to various competing priorities at certain times of the yearPrimarily this will be a digital role but will be a key part of the team for the bi-annial Women’s Running print journals with in-depth storytelling and longer-form articlesWhat YOU bring to Outside:3-5 years reporting and/or writing experience in the running or related industry.Strong editorial background and proofreading skillsMindset and experience to develop and iterate a brand voice as it evolvesExcellent interviewer and sports writing background necessaryExperience adhering to editorial and technical style guidesStrong oral and written communicatorComfortable with frequent cross-functional and senior management contactBachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media or related field or equivalent experienceDemonstrated excellence in content creation or editing, including online publishingEntirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $48,000 to $60,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission . Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more.
