Job Description : Introduction
This position is located at Joseph Reading Park in Manassas. The work is typically performed 4-7 days per week for 3 hours per day (Monday through Sunday). The Caretaker is responsible for stocking supplies and cleaning park amenities such as restrooms, picnic tables and pavilions as well as disposing of trash within the park and light general maintenance of park areas (i.e. raking weeding flower beds). Applicants must be 16 years of age and be capable of lifting 50 pound tables and trash barrels. The caretaker must be 100% reliable or there may be serious customer impact.

NATURE OF WORK
This class is part of the Maintenance & Operations Job Family. Incumbents maintain County buildings, grounds and facilities. Responsibilities may include: landscaping, sign installations, snow/debris removal, moving furniture & supplies; inspecting and repairing equipment when necessary; and maintaining inventories for the stockroom.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is responsible for maintaining grounds and facilities. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.

TYPICAL CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES (These responsibilities are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1. Operates equipment to assist with maintenance of facilities and grounds, including performing lawn care and landscape activities, and snow removal.
2. Performs manual labor activities, which includes: gathering materials and equipment; placing materials in proper locations; moving furniture and equipment; and, performing other related activities.
3. Performs basic and routine inspection, and preventive maintenance activities on heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, and electrical equipment systems.
4. Maintains facilities and facility structures which includes making minor repairs, assembling furniture, fixing doors, replacing carpets, painting assigned areas, replacing light ballasts, monitoring climate control systems, and/or performing related duties.
5. Monitors and maintains materials, inventory, and supplies.
6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
8th grade education and 0 year of related experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May require a CDL License or ability to obtain one, to include alcohol and controlled substances tests per Federal Transit Administration Mandate Title 49 Transportation §382.Subpart C, if applicable to the position;
May require a valid driver’s license, if applicable to work assignment;
May require the passing of a pre-employment physical examination;
Must be at least 18 years of age to perform duties which involve handling, applying or otherwise working with hazardous materials such as, but not limited to, larvicides, where applicable;
May be required to be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds regularly; up to 80 pounds occasionally; and up to 125 pounds as applicable.
May be required to respond to emergencies after normal working hours, as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSPositions in this class typically require: crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
