Job Description : APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ONLY ON THE FCPS WEBSITE: https://sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search/Home/Home?partnerid=25103&siteid=5042#jobDetails=1414655_5042POSITION SUMMARYPerforms a variety of professional duties required to support proactive strategic social media activities to increase public knowledge, awareness, and appreciation of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and school operations; trains FCPS staff in the use of social media; ensures alignment of messaging across the Division; engages in two-way conversations on social media platforms; proactively responds before issues develop into crises; and extends outreach efforts that engages the community through the use of social media.MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Creates, writes, and edits social media posts for multiple FCPS social media platforms aligned with the Office of Communication and Community Relations (OCCR) talking points on key topics.2. Maintains and grows the Division’s social media presence through a variety of posts, interactive engagements, and strategic approaches.3. Creates graphics, animations, and identifying images to ensure FCPS social media content is engaging and informative.4. Utilizes social media to build a database of communicators and supports the manager in fostering those relationships to ensure positive visibility for the Division.5. Fosters dialogue between the Division and communities of interest by monitoring social media channels, coordinating online feedback, and responding as directed.6. Collaborates with multilingual team to support social media engagement in other languages.7. Generates, manages, schedules, and monitors content for each platform as well as provide guidance to social media liaisons at schools and departments.8. Collaborates with school social media liaisons to gather and manage content creation.9. Monitors social media in a crisis/emergency and responds, as directed, ensuring alignment with Division communication.10. Supports and assists in the development of training programs for school and department staff to foster responsible usage of social media to promote the FCPS mission, vision, and story.11. Ensures monitoring of all social media channels associated with FCPS to maintain Division guidelines and codes of conduct and stay consistent with OCCR’s strategic communication plan.12. Anticipates social media communication innovations and trends and develops a body of knowledge to assist social media manager.13. Collects data to benchmark key messaging success and outreach/engagement across all FCPS social media platforms.14. Monitors industry-wide trends in online community tools and applications.15. Collaborates with staff and administrators throughout the Division. 16. Performs related duties as required or assigned.QualificationsAny combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s in communications, journalism, or graphic design preferred. Two years of progressively more responsible experience writing, editing, and developing creative content for social media for a large organization or media outlet. May be required to work an evening and/or weekend as necessary. Knowledge of social media in a K-12 environment and familiarity of FCPS’ mission, policies, and regulations. Knowledge and understanding of multiple online community platforms, social media tools, and usage. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to public information, privacy rights, and communications. Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style and grammar. Skill in writing, editing, grammar, and graphic design. Ability to take content already created and distill it to work for each platform. Ability to distinguish between audiences and message accordingly. Ability to work as part of a team to ensure a program meets its goals. Excellent human relations skills and ability to establish and maintain successful cooperative relationships. Proficiency in the use of technology. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
