Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of six PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. Reporting to the Elementary Dean of Programs, the ideal candidate is a reliable team player with a commitment to youth development. They will play a key role in implementing DREAM’s Grow the Whole Child model by driving Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade growth in social and emotional competencies.
Responsibilities:
Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum through explicit instruction, and by embedded learning opportunities throughout the day, including project based learning designed to foster character values including, but not limited to, respect, effort, and teamwork;
Support and implement daily reading activities in an innovative literacy program intended to improve reading skills and enthusiasm and confidence for reading;
Serve as a member of the DREAM’s East Harlem Elementary School’s K, 1st, and 2nd grade team and collaborate to analyze data, revise practices, norm on team-wide initiatives, implement academic and behavioral plans, and discuss individual youth with a solutions-oriented mindset;
Drive collection and analysis of data related to SEL program success and implement curricular and management improvements based on data;
Implement restorative justice practices that bridge the school and after-school space;
Develop and lead off-site field trips in New York City;
Supervise and manage individual youth behavior at all times using positive student culture techniques and proactive interventions to ensure the physical and emotional safety and development of all youth;
Establish and maintain strong relationships with families;
Implement activities designed to foster better communication and social skills among youth;
Work with youth in positive and creative ways that encourage teamwork.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferred;
One year of youth development experience required;
Experience providing academic supports for youth;
Experience collecting data and implementing data-driven practices;
Exhibit a strong belief that explicit and embedded SEL competency-building positively impacts academic achievement;
Strong group facilitation skills and ability to manage behaviors using positive youth development principles (experience with restorative justice practices strongly preferred);
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills;
Understanding of opportunities and challenges in the lives and education of urban youth;
A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
