Job Description : Overview:
NATIONWIDE SEARCH: CARMEL, CA- Lovely family looking for FULL-TIME LIVE IN OR LIVE OUT NANNY/ HOUSEHOLD ASSISTANT who is looking to make a long-term commitment! They have one 5- year-old son who is extremely smart and incredibly sweet, funny, charming, and curious. They are looking for someone calm, reliable, trustworthy, kind. Someone who can approach circumstances flexibly and works with their child to guide him rather than to impose upon him. They would strongly prefer someone who has experience in child development/social work/other similar background. It would be great if they could help support them as parents on their journey to support their son rather than them trying to teach their nanny their approach since they are still learning it themselves! Someone who is patient and celebrates a child’s curiosity is paramount. Someone who is proactive in helping and takes initiative if they see something that could be more efficient or better organized. Very important that they are able to model positive emotional regulation. *Not that you aren’t every allowed to get frustrated, mad, sad, etc but that you must be able to model positive responses to these emotions). They want someone who believes in a time-in when our kid is acting out rather than a time-out. They are still figuring out their approach to “discipline,” but they don’t punish him for being bad, but instead they redirect his emotions/energy so he can feel them without being shamed but instead encouraged to express them in a more positive way. They really want someone who will be nurturing and invested in the job and helping their son grow while supporting their family. Also, someone who enjoys cooking is icing on the cake!

They are open to both LIVE IN or LIVE OUT candidates. Their preference, of course, is for local live out candidate, but open to finding the best fit! They are willing and able to guarantee 40 hrs/ wk, but this person must be flexible in regards to the hours week-to-week as they are apt to change, but you will always be given notice ahead of time. Working a standing bi-monthly date night would also be awesome! They have one 35-lb dog, some care required (walks, brushing teeth). They prefer that this candidate be vaccinated, but not a dealbreaker as long as they are taking other precautionary measures surrounding covid, etc. You will be responsible for all childcare related duties including laundry, wrangling their son to and from activities, facilitating arts & crafts, games and play; helping to run errands and helping with homework as needed. The actual child care portion would probably be somewhere around 15-ish hours per week so we would love to fill the rest of the time with home assistant tasks – especially in regards to taking the lead on cooking healthy meals.

Their son is an excellent conversationalist! He can be very active although also imposes “inside days” on them with some frequency. He enjoys being helpful (if he’s interested in what you are doing) and LOVES anything to do with trains and/or building! He loves cuddling on the couch in between rounds of “chase” and building homes for rolly pollys. He is legitimately an amazing builder and helps us with projects around the house. When he is interested in something, he can hyper focus on it and do it for a very long time. He’s an only child so likes a high level of control and some autonomy with plenty of opportunities to explain things to his parents! One trigger for him is when feels disconnected, so they are looking for someone to walk the line of giving him autonomy while also being present/engaged. He tends to enjoy adult company but often struggles with social situations with peers – either because he is being aloof/hyper-focused on something or because he is still learning how to share/take turns/spatial awareness/respond to frustration/disappointment/hurt feelings. He can be a bit of a perfectionist and get really upset if he doesn’t think he’s good at something.

Although he does not have any diagnoses as or now, they do prefer someone who has experience with child development/behavior and/or socio-emotional regulation. When he is regulated and feeling connected, he is incredibly sweet, funny, charming, etc.! He has difficulty when he is feeling sad/frustrated/disconnected/etc. and can lash out or just be difficult. Since starting Synergetic Play therapy, he has improved immensely at home. He still can be defiant or do things he knows drive us crazy (knock things over and run away, ignore his parents, etc) but these are occurring less frequently and calming him down is taking way less time. They are still struggling quite a lot in more social environments, especially school or crowded playgrounds where he is often disruptive and aggressive towards the other kids (mostly pushing/grabbing them aggressively or screaming at them but occasional hitting/throwing things or running into them as well). The teacher pointed out that it is not usually malicious, more that the kids or the curriculum don’t fall in line with what he wants to do or his feelings get hurt and then he lashes out or falls apart crying OR there’s an overreaction to a kid bumping or sitting/standing too close. Ultimately, their ideal candidate has a background specializing in the socio-emotional approach and/or is familiar with synergetic play therapy – and it is highly desired if this person has experience cooking and with getting kids to eat more healthy foods!

They live in a gated community located within a wild-land conservation. A car will be necessary (though they do have an extra one they can lend out. Parking is easy. They have access to multiple amenities about a 15 min drive (on windy roads) including a pool, lake, tennis courts, golf, playground, many hiking trails but there aren’t many kids in the immediate community. There are multiple parks, the ocean, and tide-pools between 15-25 min away.

They are seeking someone to become a member of their family and grow with them long-term. Pay is $30-35/hr, gross via payroll + PTO. Relocation assistance provided, negotiable.
