The City and County of Honolulu’s (“City”) AmeriCorps VISTA Program was established in 2018 to strengthen city government’s efforts to increase community resilience across the island of O’ahu, Hawai’i. The City VISTA Program embeds VISTA Members in multiple City departments to enhance the capacity of the departments to respond to the challenges of shocks and stressors like high costs of living, natural disasters, and climate change. In alignment with the VISTA program’s mission, City VISTA Members strive to build capacity, create sustainable solutions, empower communities, and alleviate poverty. The Economic Revitalization Research Analyst VISTA position serves in the City’s Office of Economic Revitalization (OER). OER is responsible for creating economic diversity and resilience in O’ahu’s communities in the post-COVID environment and in preparation for impacts of future economic stressors. This VISTA position will research, prioritize, and recommend revitalization strategies that build capacity in key economic sectors identified to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, and establish economic resiliency that acknowledges historical inequities and supports underserved communities to build back better. Key sectors include: Healthcare; Sustainable Agriculture; Regenerative Tourism; Green Energy and Transportation; Innovation and Technology; Housing and Redevelopment; Resilient Infrastructure; and Film and Entertainment. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills; familiarity with GIS and knowledge of statistics principles; interest in economic and workforce development; and a deep commitment to equity and climate resilience on O’ahu. This year-long position begins May 9, 2022 and is based on the island of O’ahu, in Honolulu, Hawai’i. All candidates must meet the City and County of Honolulu’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate requirements prior to service.
Member Duties : The Economic Revitalization Research Analyst VISTA will focus on research, data, and analysis tools in support of a comprehensive economic recovery strategy for a strengthened, diverse, equitable, and resilient economy. Specific activities include: (1) Research economic revitalization strategies and develop tools for prioritization based on community needs; (3) Create mechanisms for incorporating community and private sector input in prioritization processes; (4) Identify data gaps in and support creation of comprehensive data sets for decision-makers; (5) Identify performance measures for impact, equity and success; (6) Ensure the needs of frontline communities are addressed in economic recovery and revitalization plans; (7) Support convening, drafting, and communications planning in development and release of economic recovery and revitalization plans.
