Job Description : Materials Testing Lab ManagerWith total oversight of a small team, this is a hands-on, multi-faceted management position of significant responsibility. Day-to-day, the Site Manager oversees all aspects of our AZ site including staffing, quality of service, equipment up-time, and profitability, while working closely with the Managing Director and other supervisors from the remote Florida office to ensure testing is accurate and timely. Longer term, the Site Manager participates in strategic planning for the facility, particularly in the development of new products/services, and growth of sales opportunities. Through proper planning, the Site Manager must ensure that the site maintains operation 7 days a week, through holidays, and that all tests start or are serviced in a reasonable amount of time. The role will often require wearing many hats and someone with a broad skill-set – even going so far as personally stepping into any role and performing necessary tasks to keep these critical tests going.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESLocal Quality System oversightCapital equipment budgetingManagement of vendors and their servicesField layout and quality monitoringTroubleshooting customer issuesInternal research projects to advance our science and technologyAssist with customer service and writing cost estimates, as neededSpecial project tests – setup and billingWeather system – maintenance and monitoringOversight of internal documentation (log sheets, training records, etc.)Staff supervision, retention and recruitmentAssure profitability through process efficiencies or appropriate staff levelsGenerate Promptness ReportsSKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degreeAt least 5 years’ management experience in an engineering, scientific or technical areaSuperb customer service and small team leadership/management skillsAn innate love for science and technologyStrong project management skills with an extremely high attention to detailProficiency in MS Excel and MS Word, and basic computer skillsFluency in English, both written and conversationalA sense of urgency, bias for action, and proven experience to work with difficult deadlinesPractical, results driven problem solving skillsINTER-RELATIONSHIPSWorks with subordinate staff as well as managerial peers and leadership. Must be able to establish working relationships and effective teams. Must also be able to create relationships with customers and technical organizations.
