Medical Record Abstractor – Health Information Management (HIM)
In this role, the Medical Record Abstractor will perform multiple and combined clerical duties of a more technical nature for an assigned unit in Medical Record. You will greet patients, visitors and employees, while conducting yourself in a courteous manner. You will answer telephones promptly in a clear and courteous manner and relay messages and provide routine information. You will perform timely and efficient coordination of medical record charts and information throughout department according to established procedures for assigned unit. You’ll verify data to ensure accuracy and completeness of medical record information. May assist with chart receipt, assembly and preparation for scanning functions. Perform scanning and indexing function to meet established turnaround time frames for all uses of the medical record.
Required Criteria
High school graduate or GED
One to two years job related experience preferably in a computerized health care or related environment
Knowledge of medical terminology
Demonstrated computer skills
