Position Title Museum Specialist
Department Anthropology – 010
Position Summary
The Museum Specialist in the department of Anthropology will assist Curators of African and Pacific Ethnology with the following:
Accessioning, cataloguing, objects tracking, and maintaining orderly collections storage/work areas according to standards established by the Collections Manager in consultation with the Director of Collections and Archives and Curatorial Staff.
In consultation with the Curator, answering queries, facilitating visitors to the collection setting up appointments, coordinating with collections management in scheduling and facilitating visits, preparing objects for view, providing initial documentation, and entering relevant information, dealing with issues related to the Hall of Pacific Peoples and Hall of African Peoples.
In consultation with the Curator, overseeing interns, volunteers and students in projects related to African/Pacific Ethnology collections.
In consultation with the Curator, provide material support to the curator’s research related to Pacific and African Ethnology collections.
Required Qualifications
BA in anthropology or related field.
Experience in collections-related field.
Preferred Qualifications
MA in anthropology or related field desirable.
Relevant museum experience highly desirable.
