The City of Monroe is currently recruiting for Seasonal Parks positions. The positions may last for up to 5 months. Function as a team member in the maintenance of parks, athletic facilities,
and municipal grounds. Typical duties include athletic field preparation and
maintenance; lawn and garden care such as mowing, raking, irrigation,
fertilizing, and weeding; and janitorial duties, such as emptying trash
receptacles and cleaning park restrooms. Must be able to work weekends Open until filled. Job Responsibilities
~ Perform daily maintenance, preparation and repair of athletic fields.
~ Operate riding and walk behind lawn mowers, blowers, power trimmers, chainsaws and other power tools necessary to maintain the city’s parks and municipal grounds.
~ Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, saws, picks, axes, and hoes necessary in parks maintenance activities.
~ Maintain restroom facilities in city parks, including cleaning, minor repair activities and janitorial services.
~ Empty trash receptacles at the city park facilities and in the downtown commercial area and transport to disposal site.
~ Operate, when required, motor vehicles such as pick-up, tractors, and one-ton flat bed with trailer.
~ Plant, replant, prune, fertilize and maintain plantings. Mow, fertilize, weed, etc. lawn areas.
~ Assist with the maintenance of underground irrigation systems.
~ Irrigate ground areas that are not equipped with underground irrigation systems with hoses and sprinklers.
~ Assist in park improvement projects.
~ Perform routine maintenance and repair on park playgrounds and playground equipment.
~ Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Parks Seasonal Knowledge, Skills and Abilities –
~ Work hazards and proper safety procedures (training will be provided)
~ Plants and their requirements; control of disease and insects desired
~ Operating hand, power or motor tools used to maintain landscaped grounds.
~ Pruning and the use of tools and equipment used in tree care, disease and insect control procedures desired
~ Develop and sustain positive working relationships with all city staff.
~ Ability to respond to the public in a courteous and diplomatic manner in the English language.

~ Must be at least 18 years of age.
~ Some experience in landscape or park maintenance.
~ Valid Washington State Driver”s License.
~ Experience in preparation of athletic fields is highly desirable.
