Reports to: Land and Environment Co-Director
Wage: $20.00/hour, 840 hours
Duration: end May 2022 – October 2022

Position Summary:
The Environmental TWG Technician will assist the NVE Tribal Wildlife Grant Program in
habitat and minnow surveys of the Upper Eklutna River. This position also includes data
management and entry. The Upper Eklutna River is located on the south end of Eklutna
Lake in Chugach State Forest. Each fork of the upper river is included in this survey.
Minnow trapping will be completed along the whole river to the inlet mouth. Fish counts will
also be completed during the season runs. This position is labor intensive as the survey
calls for walking up to 8 miles per day, wading in fast flowing water to collect habitat data
and carrying loads of up to 40 pounds. Work occurs in bear and moose habitat, with
exposure to biting insects and adverse weather conditions. Most work will be completed
during normal daylight working hours. One to two weeks will be working remote in the field
and require overnight stays. This survey also requires UTV use. Technician will be working
as a team with the NVE Land and Environment Staff and must adhere to safety protocols.
This is a part-time position, working no more than 840 hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and fish identification or willingness to learn
Physically able to perform the duties as required
Wilderness experience preferred, especially bear safety.
High school diploma or equivalent, college education preferred
Knowledge of Tribal and Traditional customs preferred.
Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal

supervision.

Must be personable, friendly and dependable.
Must be able to operate an UTV
Must be able to work individually and as a member of a team.
Must be able to prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
Excellent oral and written communication, and computer skills are required.
Must be 18 or older to apply.

Workplace Environment
Place of employment to be located at 26339 Eklutna Village Road, Chugiak, Alaska
99567, and in the field. Work hours will vary depending on duties of the job. Office
hours are 9am-5pm M-F.
REQUIRED: All applicants who will be working with Native families and children must
pass a State of Alaska and Federal Criminal background check and possess a valid
Alaska Driver’s license with a good driving record and proof of insurance upon hire. A
State of Alaska Interested Persons background check will be required at time of hire.
