Job Description : Definition
Under direct supervision, performs proactive security services to effectively provide for the safety and welfare of staff and visitors while in SRPMIC buildings or grounds. Patrols and monitors assigned work areas and sites. Enforces site specific safety standards and rules. Identifies unsafe or improper behavior of visitors and takes appropriate, safe, action to remedy situations and/or report issues to site administrators or law enforcement. Provides assistance to and establishes and maintains excellent customer service relations with staff and visitors. May perform some custodial, clerical and administrative duties for the Community Recreational Services Department (CRSD). This job class is treated as FSLA Non-Exempt.
Essential Functions: (Essential functions may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills and other characteristics. Examples of Tasks
Tasks:
1. Continually patrols all assigned areas including common areas, hallways, stairwells, elevators, restrooms, restricted service areas (back of house), activity areas, outdoor sports fields, parks, parking lots and site perimeter for the purpose of maintaining high visibility and order; preventing trespassing and suspicious loitering; protecting persons and property; and assuring compliance with all site rules and regulations. Enforces safety rules, entry restrictions, food and beverage rules, and other site rules and regulations.
2. Greets visitors and provides assistance by providing information or directions and answering questions. Explain site rules and regulations.
3. Notifies site administrators, police and appropriate emergency personnel of any potentially dangerous or unusual situations. Reports discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to site administrator. Responds to emergency calls promptly. Assists when emergencies occur at assigned location.
4. Ensures a smooth and safe traffic flow of visitors through buildings and across grounds. Questions unauthorized persons on or around premises, advises as to site rules and regulations, and either directs visitors to the site administrator, or directs them to leave the premises.
5. Records and completes incident reports in a timely manner. Utilizes site surveillance camera system to monitor activity and review footage as needed. Provides assistance to law enforcement personnel investigating incidents at the site.
6. Occasionally performs customer service and administrative office duties as assigned by the supervisor including visitor check in; answering telephones; and responding to customer concerns, questions or complaints. Uses personal computer and MS Office software in the preparation of reports and presentations, and for visitor registration and check in.
7. Occasionally performs custodial work including clean up and mopping of spills, restocking restrooms, removing trash, and collecting litter.
8. Attends meetings and assists with department functions as needed. Attends staff activities and meetings to become familiar with Department operations, projects, and special assignments. Attends special training, conferences and seminars as required.
9. Performs other job related duties as assigned by Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, customs, and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Knowledge of safety and security practices and procedures.
Knowledge of adolescent development, gang activities, and at-risk behaviors.
Knowledge of stress, conflict resolution, and anger management techniques.
Skill in following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Skill in identifying and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive and important information while using diplomacy and tact.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with the public.
Skill in operating a variety of standard office equipment including copiers and FAX machines.
Skill using a personal computer and related software including MS Windows and MS Office.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to use initiative and independent judgment and recognize when to refer matters to supervisor’s, manager’s or Director’s attention.
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under stress and duress.
Ability to work in various temperatures including conditions of extreme heat or cold.
Ability to protect one self and others from harm’s way.
Ability to physically restrain adults and juveniles in an emergency situation as a last resort in accordance with established guidelines.
Ability to respond to and react in emergency situations on a frequent basis.
Ability to be unbiased and treat others in a fair and consistent manner.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk, stoop, bend climb, and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to make quick and sound judgments in a fast paced environment.
Ability to deescalate volatile situations in a non-threatening manner.
Ability to communicate with people in a professional manner.
Ability to be flexible and be able to work various hours such as early morning, late night and overnight hours to include weekends and holidays based upon the needs of the assigned work site.
Ability to adhere to Department safety policies including but not limited to proper PPE, first aid/CPR training, and other trainings and certifications as required for the job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from High School or GED equivalent required.
For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
Experience: One (1) year experience as a security officer or comparable job function. Proficiency with personal computer and related software MS Windows and MS Office. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Within three (3) moths of hire, incumbent must successfully complete the following required training:
CPR certification;
First Aid Certification; and
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Independent Study courses (ICS 100: Introduction to ICS and ICS 700: Introduction to NIMS)
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.
Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill

Special Requirements
Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
