Position : Youth Services Coordinator
Job Description : Garfield County Public Library District (GCPLD) is expanding – more services, programs, and events; longer open hours; and more awesome people joining our team!
We’re seeking a Youth Services Coordinator for our Rifle Branch Library. The person who fills this role will have the opportunity to join the Rifle team, a group of individuals who are talented, dedicated, creative, and enthusiastic about serving the public. The Youth Services Coordinator provides front-line customer service to patrons in the library and assists the Branch Manager in all areas of public library services; creates and implements programs, classes, and events for children and youth ages zero to 18; develops, monitors, and maintains the children, tweens, and young adult collections; performs youth-related community outreach; and performs related work as required.
The Youth Services Coordinator collaborates with the District’s youth services team in support of system-wide events and; contributes in a positive way to the District’s culture of trust and respect both internally and externally.

The town of Rifle is near the middle of Garfield County along I-70, and is close to three unique and beautiful state parks: Harvey Gap, Rifle Falls, and Rifle Gap.
Garfield County, Colorado is a jewel within the Rocky Mountains. The Roaring Fork River winds its way through Carbondale until it meets the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs. From there, the Colorado River meanders along the I-70 corridor, from the world-famous Glenwood Hot Springs Resort to the beautiful alpine vistas of Parachute, and beyond.

Examples of Core Role Responsibilities
Creates, plans, markets, and implements Youth Services Programs; performs community outreach; collaborates with Branch Manager to plan for expanding services for children ages zero to 18; contacts schools and sets up after-school programs and/or outreach.
Creates and delivers engaging and innovative events and classes for young patrons, including story time, music and movement, STEAM programs, book clubs, artistic expression, and coding.
Selects collections of books, materials, and activities for youth programs; contacts presenters and performers; coordinates schedules and evaluates effectiveness of programs; selects new materials and weeds old materials; stays current with trends and ensures collection reflects community needs.
Staffs the circulation desk; assists patrons with check outs and renewals; places holds; responds to account questions; prepares library cards.
Provides customer service to library patrons of all ages, including children and teens; assists with informational questions, readers’ advisory, and circulation needs; answers reference questions; assists patrons needing computer help.
Creates attractive and informative exhibits and displays; submits publicity information for programs, events, and informational items; shares information and coordinates activities with other District departments and specialists.

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. The following education and experience is required:
Relevant bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of four (4) years of education and experience, and;
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience educating children and/or working with youth development programs or initiatives.
Additionally, the following is preferred:
Experience working in a library
Experience working with teens
Bilingual in Spanish or another language
