As the Nisqually Land Trust Habitat Stewardship Member, the AmeriCorps member will focus on engaging the South Puget Sound community in implementing the mission of the Land Trust – acquiring and managing critical lands to permanently benefit the water, wildlife, and people of the Nisqually River Watershed. The Land Trust is a small non-profit organization that protects and stewards more than 8,700 acres the watershed. Stewardship of these properties includes monitoring, maintenance, and implementation of process-based habitat restoration projects. Tasks will include recruiting volunteers for habitat improvement work parties; training and supporting volunteers involved in the Land Trust’s site steward program; recruiting and working with interns in the field; assisting Land Trust staff with stewardship and habitat improvement activities; assisting with social media; and maintaining the volunteer database. In general the AmeriCorps member will serve a standard weekday schedule, with the addition of 1-2 weekend volunteer activities each month. The primary service location will be at the Land Trust office. In-the-field stewardship volunteer activities will occur on Land Trust properties throughout the watershed and outreach volunteer activities will occur at sites throughout the South Puget Sound region.
Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Habitat Stewardship Member will support the Nisqually Land Trust’s mission by helping grow our network of volunteers and assisting with habitat improvement and stewardship, so we can better protect the Nisqually River Watershed. The Habitat Stewardship Member will help plan and host weekly volunteer work parties, advertising the events using social media, volunteer forums, online newspapers, etc. They will train and support volunteers site stewards and organize a yearly workshop for site stewards, as well as periodic “advanced” workshops on habitat and stewardship topics. They will assist with intern recruitment and management in the field, accompany Land Trust staff on habitat monitoring visits, and implement stewardship and restoration projects. This member will engage volunteers and support the Land Trust’s mission of land protection and habitat restoration.
