Position : Assistant Food Scientist
Job Description : Scope: The Assistant Scientist position is an integral part of the MycoTechnology Team. The role’s primary function is to lead and support the development of food and beverage prototypes utilizing MycoTechnology’s current and future ingredient platforms.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead and assist in developing new and exciting food demos using MycoTechnology Ingredients.Use a blend of science and culinary artisanship to provide customers with innovative food designs that add value to their products.Prepare samples for screening and taste samples daily.Collaborate and maintain external partners and resources.Write standard operating procedures, organize data, and document test results with clear and concise notes.Produce clear and concise results and communicate/present them to the organization.Perform routine chemistry calculations for making solutions (i.e., molarity calculations, dilutions).Assists with sample reviews and conducting product assessments.Lead and assist sample evaluations and managementSupport other Application Scientists in managing the Product Development and Culinary Lab SpaceCore Job DutiesDevelops prototypes that meet the food and financial objectives outlined by the customer or internal brief.Understands and utilizes Sensory Science principals in evaluating the efficacy of solutionsAssist other Applications Scientists with their efforts as neededComplete assigned projects in a timely manner; communicate required project time upfrontConduct and document prototype reviews for customers and managementFollows procedures and takes a structured approach to developing formulas and product samples at the benchtop, and pilot plantLeads and assists with sample reviews and product assessmentsDetermines critical ingredient specification parameters and communicates these to customers.Support sales team by participation in customer meetings and discussions whenever appropriate. Showcases food/beverages prototypes corresponding to customer’s objectives.Leads and assists in test kitchen maintenance including, set up and clean up for experimentation and evaluations, including dishes. Sample disposal, workspace clean up and sanitationSample management including receiving, labeling, recording, and storageSkills Required/Technical ExpertiseThe ability to:Lead and support with equal vigor.Plan and lead projects of varying complexity with minimal supervisionMake recommendations on new products and processes.Assess the feasibility of proposed projects and generate alternative solutions.Research consumer and/or competitive trends to provide ideas for new product development or improvement of existing products.Communicate effectively and influence project direction both internally and externally.QualificationsMinimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Culinary studies or a related field (MS preferred)1-3 years of experience preferred.The incumbent must possess leadership, cost consciousness, communication skills, and diplomacy that will promote good relations with internal/external clients and other technical and scientific disciplines in the effective execution of projects to accomplish the MycoTechnology’s objectives.Requires a team-oriented mentalityProgressive analytical software skills: SalesForce, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Office, PowerPointSuperior written and verbal communication skillsThe ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
