The City of Winchester and the Department of Social Services invites you to come join our team! As a Benefit Programs Specialist you will work with a dedicated team of public servants to help people through the various government assistance programs we administer.
Duties, Responsibilities, Miscellaneous Information
As a Benefit Program Specialist you will:
Interview persons for assistance, obtains necessary information, make eligibility determinations, and explains programs and rights/responsibilities of applicants and recipients;
Process applications for financial assistance and diversion; accurately determine eligibility for assistance and benefit levels using automated systems and manual methods within established deadlines;
Monitors cases for changes in recipient circumstances, and implements changes to appropriately reflect benefit level within guidelines;
Evaluates employability status of clients and explores potential sources of income; explains client responsibilities, rights and program availability.
Qualifications/Certifications
Candidates interested in this role must have any combination of education and experience equivalent a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), an Associate’s Degree in social sciences or a related field preferred. Possession of a valid and appropriate driver’s license and must complete mandatory state training including Medicaid, TANF, and SNAP.
