Positions may be eliminated, moved, or combined should enrollment not meet projections.Job Summary: Participants in the MESA Way of Life Day camp will study outdoor safety and wilderness survival including first aid, fish (life cycle, ecology, fishing techniques), plants (ecology, foraging, preparation and preservation), and navigation (with and without compass, map, & GPS).General Responsibilities/Duties: Prepare or revise lessonsInstruct and supervise K-4, 5-8, or 9-12 grade student groupsSalary: $39.80/hour, (B+0 in accordance with the FEA negotiated agreement)Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, June 1 – June 30, 2022Work Day: 7 hours per day, starting at 8:30 AMStudent Contact Days and Hours: June 6 – June 30, 2022, 8:30 AM – 2:00 PMEquipment to be Used: GPS, map and compass, fishing gear, flint, shovel, foraging and other outdoor equipment, computer, Google Suite, camera, and video equipment.Job QualificiationsThe following are required:Valid current teaching certificate with appropirate endorsements for age groups (i.e. elementary, middle school, or science)The following are preferred:First aid certificationAlaska Boat Safety & Wilderness Survival CertificationOutdoor Guide CertificationPhysical and Mental DemandsThe physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Requires near vision to write and read printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Must be able to use carts, ladders, dollies, and stools to assist in moving or shelving items. Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers may also be required. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.FEA Negotiated Agreement, Article 105, II states:Extended Day ProgramsTeachers teaching a classroom of students within a classroom setting in a District-approved curriculum at an extended day program (e.g., afterschool) or an extended year program (e.g., regular education summer school) established by the District on or after September 1, 1998, will be paid at the B+O rate of the salary schedule for hours worked. The Golden Heart Academy educational program, the cooperative education summer program, and the special education summer program were established before 1998. Positions will be posted according to normal hiring procedures per Article 401.
