Job Description : COUNSELORReports to: Clinical Manager Location: Nugen’s RanchFLSA Status: Employment Status: FTSummary of Position: Provides direct clinical services to clients in the residential treatment program. Performs assessment interviews (intake), collects and records client data, provides direction and guidance through individual counseling sessions, maintains client charts, develops individualized treatment plans, and guides clients through the treatment process. This position facilitates educational and process groups for clients. The counselor adheres to Federal and State confidentiality laws, provides case management for clients through the transitional phase of treatment, and provides leadership in Aftercare planning. The counselor assists clients in the discharge-referral process and is responsible for client chart compliance. This position supervises clients in social, recreational, cultural and community related activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provides clinical treatment functions for clients in individual and groups sessions using the client’s treatment plan as a guide.Maintains client records in timely, orderly manner according to the guidelines established in the agency treatment manual.Adheres to state and federal confidentiality laws.Performs intake assessment interviews using the bio-psychosocial assessment documents, the DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria and the ASAM.Guides clients in the preparation of an individualized treatment plan.Prepares for and participates in bi-monthly client case reviews.Provides case management to clients.Facilitates psycho-educational and process groups.Assists clients with continuing care planning and referrals.Supervises clients in social/recreational activities.Attends and participates in the weekly Community Meeting.Provides client transportation using the agency vehicle.Provides documents and data for agency grant compliance reports.Participates in staff meetings and training sessions.Enter data into the AKAIMS data programOther duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications and Required Skills and Abilities:· Must be certified, as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Level I or Level II.· Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with individuals in recovery. Prefer some experience working in a residential setting.· Is knowledgeable of the interaction between chemical dependency and mental illness and the treatment issues related to dual disorders.· Is culturally sensitive and aware of the State’s cultural diversities.· Is able to supervise and provide leadership to clients in a variety of settings.· Is able to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.· Is capable of maintaining client records.· Is capable of maintaining client confidentiality as per State and Federal regulations.· If a recovering individual, must be chemically free for a minimum of 2 years.· Required:Current TB Test (obtainable within the first 30 days of employment)Current First Aid/CPR Cards (obtainable within the first 90 days of employment)Valid Alaska Driver’s License and insurableComputer skillsMust be able to pass mandated criminal background checkRole model positive behavior – enforce client rulesCore Competencies: Understanding AddictionTreatment Knowledge – Application to PracticeProfessional Readiness – and Ethical ResponsibilitiesCounselingCase ManagementRecords/RecordkeepingAKAIMS documentationMedicaid standardsReferralsService CoordinationDocumentationComputer KnowledgeGeneral Information: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
