POSITION DESCRIPTION: Grounds Worker
DEPARTMENT: Grounds
REPORTS TO: Grounds Manager or Grounds Supervisor
1. SUMMARY:
The main function of the Little America Hotel Grounds Keeper is to maintain the hotel’s grounds, lawns, and surrounding areas in a clean, neat and well-groomed condition.
2. TASKS:
The tasks that are essential to perform the functions of this position are:
Keep property clean and clear of trash.
Have a current, valid Arizona Driver’s License.
Remove all trash from property to dumpsters located around the property for garbage trucks to remove.
Make sure all parking areas and driveways are clean, swept and free of debris by means of using the riding sweeper, back pack blowers, rakes, brooms and dust pans.
Mow all grass areas on a regular basis, and trim edges with string trimmer.
Weed all shrub and flower bed areas.
Trim shrubs and trees at the direction of the Grounds Manager.
Remove snow and ice from walkways and driveways with snow shovels, plows, and blowers.
Apply pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other chemicals throughout the hotel property as directed by Grounds Manager. Be familiar with MSDS sheets.
Maintain, adjust and repair sprinkler system as necessary.
Maintain grounds equipment, keeping it clean and in good working order.
Assist in the repair of asphalt surfaces.
Maintain the hiking trail behind the hotel.
Direct traffic during holiday Brunches.
Clean the Pool area each day.
Collect and prepare fire wood to be burned by the hotel throughout the winter.
Participate in installation and removal of exterior Christmas lights and decorations.
Other duties as assigned.
3. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to ascend or descend rung ladders, and the like safely and with agility; to work safely in elevated places; and to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling from precarious situations.
Ability to learn equipment operation.
Ability to learn power tool operation.
Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
Ability to move body to floor level and move about.
Ability to extend arm(s) in any direction.
Ability to support oneself in an erect and/or completely upright position for a prolonged period of time.
Ability to substantially press against something with a steady force in order to push forward, downward, or outward, and to exert a considerable force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Ability to raise substantial objects from a lower to a higher position, or move objects horizontally from position to position.
Ability to manipulate small objects precisely by whatever means, and to apply considerable grasping-type pressure to an object.
Ability to express and exchange ideas verbally.
Availability to be at work within 30 minutes of notification (snow preparedness)
