Job Description : PRIMARY FUNCTIONThe Assistant Principal of School Culture is an experienced educator who is skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community for students, parents, and staff. This Assistant Principal will be responsible for leading age-appropriate discipline and incentive initiatives that will result in a positive school culture.REPORTS TOHigh School PrincipalTERM OF EMPLOYMENT11 months; extended day (8:00am-5:00pm)DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSAbility to inspire othersExperience in peer mediation and other conflict resolution methodsFlair for innovative and creative behavior modification strategiesMinimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban settingPassion for working with middle/high school aged childrenPreference for bilingual candidateProven strength in classroom management and discipline skillsRESPONSIBILITIES1. School CultureCollaborate with the other Deans of School Culture (middle or high school) on a regular basis to establish school wide culture and outreach.Establish a positive, structured, and fun school culture.Motivate and guide students to become their best selves.Plan, design and implement a school-wide discipline plan.Research and develop character education plan to inform Advisory lessons.2. Students: Create, implement, and monitor individual behavior plans.Lead as the point person for discipline issues in the school.Plan and execute incentive programs, field trips, and activities.Track trends in behavior and develop interventions.3. Parents: Collaborate with parents to implement behavior plans.Establish strong parent-school relationships.Meet with parents regarding student behavior.Plan, develop, and execute parent workshops in collaboration with social workers.4. Administrative: Attend special school events (Talent Show, Prom, etc.).Create, maintain, and update accurate student records, documenting all aspects of the incidents and interventions.Participate in child study teams and referral process, as needed.Provide reports of incidents and interventions on a monthly basis.Assist Assistant Principal of Instruction with Standardize Testing (Regents, AP, etc.)Supervise students during assemblies, breakfast, lunch, recess, transitions, detention, and suspension.Co-teach Algebra II with Math Teacher and other classes on an as needed basis.Support 9th and 11th grade teams i.e. participate in meetings, discussions, etc.SKILLS AND ABILITIESWritten and verbal fluency in SpanishDemonstrate good judgment and good problem-solving skillsDirect and instruct othersFollow safety procedures and written and verbal instructionsInspire trust with students, parents, and colleaguesMake independent decisionsOrganize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasksPlan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive student management program which leads to a positive school cultureRespond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work settingWork autonomously within school established guidelines and policiesWork effectively with staff, students, and publicJob Types: Full-time, ContractPay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per yearBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceEmployee assistance programFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offProfessional development assistanceTuition reimbursementVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftEducation:Master’s (Preferred)Experience:Education Leadership: 3 years (Preferred)Language:Spanish Fluently (Preferred)Work Location: One location
