The Work Unit
The Prevention Services Division works with public and private partners across Colorado to improve the health of all Coloradans. Division professionals develop, review, implement and evaluate public health interventions proven to promote healthy living, prevent chronic disease, protect against injury and ensure access to health care and opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. The Division is committed to the professional development, collaborative effort, and sustained wellness of its workforce.
The Prevention Services Division is actively building a workforce reflective of the diverse communities we serve. The Children, Youth, and Families (CYF) branch is the organizational entity within the Prevention Services Division that plans, designs, implements, and evaluates public health interventions related to pregnant and postpartum people, children, and youth, including children and youth with special health care needs, with a goal of maximizing the health and well-being of Colorado’s maternal and child health population. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practices, data-based decision-making, training, technical assistance, community partnerships, and integration of various branch program efforts to assure health outcomes are maximized. The branch consists of the following four sections: Maternal and Infant Wellness Section, MCH Workforce Development Section, Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Section, and Maternal and Child Health Section. This position is in the Maternal and Infant Wellness Section.
The Position
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and oversight for a one-time, legislatively mandated maternal health data reporting project to be completed by June 30, 2023, in addition to publishing regular data correspondence from the Maternal Mortality Prevention Program.
This position will develop recommendations to improve the collection and public reporting of maternal health data, which includes:
Soliciting input and feedback from interested and affected stakeholders and communities, with a focus on people who are pregnant or postpartum, as well as organizations supporting that population, with a focus on racial and ethnic minority groups, to identify gaps in available data reporting systems and inform recommendations.
Researching and analyzing the collection and public reporting of maternal health data available through hospitals, health systems, midwifery practices, and birthing centers with a focus on health outcomes correlated with race/ethnicity and disability, uptake of provider training on bias, incidents of disrespect or mistreatment of a pregnant person, and stories from pregnant and postpartum people and their family members.
Additionally, this position will be responsible for developing research and writing new publications relevant to the Maternal Mortality Prevention Program, which includes:
Developing materials based on the Maternal Mortality Review Committee data, including but not limited to written and infographic content.
Providing research support to other program staff and contributing to written materials created by other program staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study such as public health, community health, sociology, psychology, social work, statistics, data science, or a field related to the work assignment. AND
Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Professional work experience using a variety of different data sources to form recommendations or translating complex data into a digestible report or presentation. Experience should also include experience in engaging with communities and populations most affected by existing inequities.
Substitutions
Seven (7) years of professional experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. A master’s or doctorate from an accredited college or university in public health, community health, sociology, psychology, social work, statistics, data science, or closely-related degree may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Knowledge and understanding of how to work with diverse stakeholders including hospitals, health systems, insurers, maternal care providers, pharmacies, local and state law enforcement offices, behavioral health treatment facilities, and substance use disorder treatment facilities
Strong analytical skills; the ability to synthesize, interpret, and report on complex or technical information, collect and research data, use intuition and experience to complement data, design standards and presentations, and identify and understand the implications of recommendations;
Conditions of Employment
