ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Our focus for this position is to find candidates with a core set of strengths beyond practical, technical work experience. Therefore, we are looking for these main skillsets in our next Director:

Inspirational Leadership – To be successful as our next Director, you must have a sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated. Your social and emotional intelligence is the foundation for designing and implementing interactive communication, training, and decision-making processes for your team. Your knowledge and skill in successfully influencing and persuading others by understanding how their individual needs and motivations link to goals is essential. These skills will be useful with your department staff and the public, Councilmembers, and other stakeholders in the community.

Collaborative Partnership – As a Director, you will be a part of the senior leadership team of our City. In this role, you will quickly build rapport and trust with the other Directors and Mayor because you are a poised, engaging, and empathetic communicator. You have a natural warmth and enthusiasm mixed in with some sense of humor that has been key to your achievements. While you have always shown a strong initiative and self-direction, your best leadership successes have been accomplished by working with and through the collaboration and engagement of people or a team.

Strong Business Acumen – Because this position requires the ability to set and re-set financial and management priorities, we are looking for business-savvy leaders who have demonstrated experience with running a department or organization. Since we are accountable to the community members of Redmond, we want to see how you have operated with efficient and economical use of departmental funds, staffing, materials, facilities, and time, without sacrificing the quality of services to the end-users/customers.

Building and Nurturing Relationships in a Diverse Community: The City of Redmond is committed to being a leader and fostering a socially-just community with cultural humility. That means we are looking to see how you effectively enabled positive collaboration with diverse communities and cross-cultural situations, ensuring genuine inclusion in policy development or decision-making.
