The innovative and research-based college preparatory curriculum uses a customized educational approach to build skills in language and math and to foster academic and personal strengths – igniting the passions and gifts of unique minds.Job Description: The Tutoring Center at TNCS seeks to develop a team of knowledgeable and experienced tutors, who are capable of designing customized programs and delivering effective instruction that is tailored to meet individual needs. TNCS tutors support students in learning language, reading, writing, study, math and executive functioning skills. Students enrolled in the Tutoring Center attend independent, home, or public schools in the RVA region or work remotely from distant locations. They are connected in the quest to improve learning skills and strategies, experience greater academic success, and gain confidence through the expert instruction, coaching and care TNCS tutors provide.This is a part-time, year-round position with flexible hours assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator and determined by student numbers and need. TNCS Tutoring pays $55 per hour.Qualifications: The ideal candidate will havea bachelor’s degree in education, reading, English, math or another content area.experience teaching children, adolescents, or young adults who are challenged by learning differences.experience using technology to provide multi-sensory instruction in-person and on-line.experience implementing evidence-based methods for learning language and reading skills, such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or programs for teaching structured literacy.a repertoire of instructional strategies to motivate and engage students and a willingness to commit to each student’s growth and academic success.excellent oral and written communication skills.the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and colleagues.To Apply: Please submit both a resume and cover letter.The New Community School is an equal opportunity employer.
