Job Description
The Vice President, Behavioral and Mental Health is responsible for partnering with the Chief, Behavioral and Mental Health in the development and implementation of Children’s Behavioral and Mental health plan. The Vice President serves as an advocate for Behavioral and Mental Health throughout Children’s and externally in the community.
Within Children’s, this leader will collaborate with Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work and other related disciplines to identify opportunities to coordinate clinical care, research, educational activities that will position Children’s as a leader in the field. In the community, the Vice President will partner with state agencies and community behavioral and mental health organizations to expand the continuum of care for kids and families across the state of Georgia.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader will proactively advocate for behavioral and mental health resources necessary to enhance the delivery of efficient and high-quality patient care. The Vice President will work in partnership with Children’s leadership to identify ways to reduce fragmentation of services in order to offer seamless delivery of services to patients and their families.
The Vice President will serve as a key advisor, coach and teacher for our team on best practices in innovation and continuous improvement to accelerate learning and results for the system.
Key Responsibilities
In partnership with the Chief, Behavioral and Mental Health, lead development of and communicate a vision and overall direction for behavioral and mental health that aligns and integrates all entities across Children’s and advances clinical care, research, and teaching. Present behavioral and mental health strategy and updates to Children’s Executive Team and Children’s Board.
Provides ongoing direction and oversight for all operations and services ensuring excellence in quality, performance, family experience and value to the community.
Lead and oversee key operational functions to support the clinical, research, training, and administrative activities
Identify and lead opportunities for community partnership and engagement and serve as the behavioral and mental health liaison to the community to advance the strategy and garner community and philanthropic support.
Partner with community providers and organizations to understand areas of need and opportunity and implement plans to address gaps.
Develops, implements, and participates in processes designed to continuously assess and improve the quality of care and services and achieve nationally recognized excellence.
Achieves strong financial performance by generating new revenue, containing costs, increasing the quality of care and service offered to patients, maximizing reimbursement, and effectively managing the operations.
Develops and implements long-term sustainability plan to achieve demonstrable results within available clinical, operational, research and donor resources.
Develops an effective, transparent communications strategy to deliver standards, objectives, and outcomes to the team. Actively solicits feedback and suggestions, responds appropriately to requests, and provides resources to advance team member satisfaction.
Cultivates a collaborative team that supports effective, collegial relationships with all individuals including staff, physicians, clinicians, patients, and families.
Develops positive working relationships with peers within the organization to ensure that all patient services areas function effectively as a team. Collaborates closely with administrative leadership.
Develops an effective performance management system based on accountability and ensures and holds staff accountable to high standards in clinical competence and professional performance.
Ensures institutional compliance with applicable law/regulation/accreditation requirements and when needed takes action to respond to recommendations and deficiencies emanating from planning, regulatory or inspecting agencies. Participates in the development/maintenance of policies and procedures consistent with medical staff bylaws, hospital, JCAHO, and other regulatory standards.
Ensures alignment with annual goals and objectives for the Behavioral and Mental Health program and participates in ongoing evaluation process.
Leads efforts to obtain and maintain governmental and philanthropic funds, in partnership with Government Affairs and Children’s Foundation, which will move behavioral and mental health towards meeting its objectives.
Creates and/or maintains a culture that demonstrates respect for the individuals and appropriately recognizes the value of such individuals to the organization.

Establish credibility, trust and respect with members of the Division, Brain Health Center, Children’s senior leadership, and the Behavioral and Mental Health team as a leader, manager, strategist, operator, and communicator.
Partner effectively with Chief, Behavioral and Mental Health in the development and implementation of Children’s Behavioral and Mental health plan.
Serve as an advocate for Behavioral and Mental Health throughout Children’s and externally.
Partner collaboratively with Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work and other related disciplines to identify opportunities to coordinate clinical care, research, educational activities that will position Children’s as a leader in the field.
Proactively advocate for behavioral and mental health resources necessary to enhance the delivery of efficient and high-quality patient care. Work in partnership with Children’s leadership to identify ways to reduce fragmentation of services in order to offer seamless delivery of services to patients and their families.
Articulate a vision and corresponding plan for Behavioral and Mental Health that will result in being viewed nationally as a leader in clinical care, research, and education.
Develop a strategic assessment and implementation plan for behavioral and mental health that further builds capabilities in clinical care delivery, clinical outcomes, and prevention, and provides effective outreach to the region through community partnerships.
Develop a cohesive team; building an “esprit de corps,” and making each person feel that they are an important part of the team by seeking their input and by developing an atmosphere of collaboration. Setting clear expectations and holding people accountable to established measures.
Evaluate current clinical operations and make changes that result in improved financial performance and efficient ways to meet patient demand. Working in partnership with Children’s leadership, make changes in clinical operations with goals to increase patient access, enhance care coordination and efficiencies, while at the same time maintaining or improving physician and staff satisfaction. Establish an infrastructure that will give referring physicians outstanding service and rapid response to their need for consultations.
Support and nurture the ongoing professional development of the team. Create an environment and culture that encourages innovation.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:
Experience
An experienced leader with a powerful combination of vision, energy, and leadership with a track record of being a unifier. Can galvanize a group into one vision and drive results.
Significant clinical operations/management experience and alignment/engagement of physicians and clinicians in the areas of behavioral and mental health.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline required.
Master’s Degree or other advanced degree in behavioral sciences, nursing, social work, administration, business, or healthcare-related discipline required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
