Job Description : Openings Available: 2Category: Part Time/ Hours will differ based on season (March 1 – Oct 15 20-25hrs/week required)Salary: $15,000/year ($1,250/mox12mo)Essential Functions: Responsible for the daily husbandry and care of the animals in SonFlower Ranch Wildlife Rehabilitation Center’s (SFRWRC) care.Monitor animals’ health, keeping accurate records and maintaining the condition of animal enclosures.Facilitate accurate record keeping.Interaction with the public as needed on the aspects of wildlife rehabilitation.Be able to admit and evaluate new patients, including the creation of initial treatment plans and records.Assist in developing and carrying out feeding schedules for infant mammals.Carry out rehabilitative medical requirements for patients, including dressing changes, medication, fluid administration, and physical therapyDaily cage cleaning, diet preparation, facility upkeep.Maintain a low-stress environment for animals by promoting proper handling, keeping voices low, and providing appropriate cage set ups and covers.Assist with training (as needed), enrichment, and habitat structure (as needed).Assist with maintenance of and adherence to safety protocols, biosecurity measures, and emergency planning.Monitor inventory of food and supplies.Understand local and regional wildlife rehabilitation networks, including which rehabilitators accept which species and ages.The employee will be required to regularly stand and sit, occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Competencies: Ethical conduct concerning animal patients, interns and volunteers.Stress management/composure in often fast-paced environments.Teamwork and collaboration, including ability to work well with volunteers, supervisors, and interns of varying backgrounds.Professionalism when working with public, staff, volunteers, and interns – representing SFRWRC in the best light at all times.Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises volunteers and interns. Position will report to the Senior Animal Care SpecialistWork Environment: Normal wildlife rehab environment where there is interaction with wild animals, including smells, food preparation, working in outdoor enclosures, etc. Current animals will include small to medium mammals.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time position with an anticipated schedule of 20-25 hours/week during the busy/infant season (approx mid March thru October). November – February will be approximately 1-2 days per week. Payment schedule will be monthly regardless of hours worked at $1250/mo).Days and hours of work are TBD, as the rehab center is operational 7 days per week and 365 days per year. During the busy season schedule is expected to be 5-7 hours 4 days a week including 1 weekend day.Travel: No travel is expected for this position, other than occasional releases.Required Education and Experience: One (1) year paid experience in a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitation Center working directly with wildlife. Extended volunteer experience with high responsibility will also be considered.
