The Division of Behavioral Health is currently recruiting for an Adult Probation Officer 1/2 (Flex).
This position is located in our Anchorage Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) office in the Boney Court House.
What you will be doing:
Adult Probation Officer 1
Adult Probation Officer 1 is an entry level that follows a flexible training plan to gain experience and develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to flex/promote to an Adult Probation Officer 2. They will work predominately with less complex misdemeanant probationers referred by district court typically for alcohol or drug-related offenses; and works under supervision to learn to independently handle and supervise the most complex cases at the higher-level of the job class.
Trains and learns to provide professional case management and probation services to district court misdemeanor cases by supervising probationers and acting as a liaison between the court and treatment community in classifying and referring defendants to treatment. This position is mentored and learns to prepare court reports, referrals to treatment agencies, notifications to treatment agencies, and monitor other Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Therapeutic Court participants.
Adult Probation Officer 2
Under general direction of the Program Coordinator 2, the Adult Probation Officer 2 is the journey level and works independently to supervise the most complex cases.
Provide professional case management and probation services to district court misdemeanor cases by supervising probationers and acting as a liaison between the court and treatment community in classifying and referring defendants to treatment. This position will prepare court reports, referrals to treatment agencies, notifications to treatment agencies, and monitor other Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Therapeutic Court participants.

Minimum Qualifications
Adult Probation Officer 1
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in any field.

Substitution:
Four years of any combination of post secondary education from an accredited college and/or paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, criminal justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation, case management, or similar work experience will substitute for the required degree.

Adult Probation Officer 2
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in any field
AND
One year of entry level professional experience in probation, parole, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation, or case management.

Substitution:
Four years in any combination of post secondary education from an accredited college and/or paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement, mental health, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation, case management, or similar work experience will substitute for the required degree.

Special Note:
A criminal record check will be performed at the time of hire to identify any convictions for felony or misdemeanor crimes; and the applicant must meet the requirements for Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) access as defined by the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

A Valid Alaska’s Driver’s License is required.
This position requires that the applicant be able to gain Alaska Public Safety Information Network security clearance.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant’s training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and final approval by supervisor. It is recommended and encouraged that you apply for any/all levels that you are qualified for.
