Job Description : ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

FJS makes grants to local, national, regional, and global organizations and networks with an emphasis on Francophone West Africa, Mesoamerica, South and Southeast Asia, and the US Southeast. FJS supports efforts that advance long-term, structural change and meet immediate needs that enable women, girls, and LGBTQI people most affected by injustice to be leaders, strategists, and agents of change.
POSITION SUMMARY
The communications associate manages the foundation’s digital communications and provides administrative support to the communications team. Reporting to the director of communications, the communications associate plays an essential role in ensuring smooth operations of the communications department and providing a compelling, professional digital presence for the foundation.
The ideal candidate for this position is adaptive, a problem solver, creative, a great writer, and a strong project manager. They should thrive in a dynamic, growing workplace. They have high-level content creation and content management experience and a commitment to women’s rights and LGBTQI movements globally. This position is based in New York with an expectation to work in the office three days per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Content Creation
Develop timely and compelling content, including articles, social media posts, and graphics, for the foundation’s digital communications channels that aligns with its mission and guidelines/criteria.
Write up case studies of our grantee partners’ work.
Content Management
Maintain an editorial calendar and schedule content for the foundation’s digital channels using Hootsuite, Facebook scheduler, and Mailchimp.
Establish and maintain a story bank. Compile significant grantee partner updates to share on the FJS website and with FJS staff.
Contribute to and manage FJS’s archive of communications assets, including stories, photos, interviews and transcripts, and reports that demonstrate FJS’s and grantee partners’ work.
Conduct a quarterly scrape of grantee partners online media for photos to add to the photo archive.
Maintain resource documents (e.g., list of grantee partners’ communications channels).
Online Engagement and Analysis
Regularly monitor the digital communications channels of the foundation’s grantee partners and philanthropy influencers to identify timely and compelling content for the foundation’s digital communications channels. Monitoring mechanisms include Twitter Lists, Facebook Page List, Feedly, Google Alerts, newsletters of grantee partners, and philanthropy influencers.
Routinely engage with grantee partners and philanthropy influencers on their and our digital communications channels.
Collect analytics monthly on the performance of the foundation’s Twitter, Facebook, eNews, and website.
Departmental and Administrative Support
Support translation needs for FJS communications including maintaining relationships with language workers and project managing the translation of individual texts.
Collaborate with external consultants who produce a variety of brand assets and institutional materials (e.g., reports, graphics, advertisements).
Contribute to digital analysis reports, website modifications, and communications plans.
Participate in meetings, convenings, and working groups pertaining to the communications strategy.
Assist with planning and implementation for meetings and events with external audiences.
Support managing vendors and invoicing.
Document digital communications systems and best practices for staff learning.
Participate in, and at times lead on, special projects as needed.
Perform other communications-related tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated commitment to the foundation’s vision and mission and deep alignment with its values.
At least three years of experience in communications roles within human rights and social justice nonprofit or philanthropic sectors, with a focus on digital communications and content creation.
Strong writing skills and the ability to develop a variety of types of compelling content (e.g., reports, social media posts, social media toolkits, articles).
Working knowledge of Google analytics, content management systems, and Adobe creative suite or similar design software.
Experience with best practices for disability and language inclusion in digital media.
Experience working in a hybrid work environment and comfort with video conferencing tools.
Strong project management and time management skills.
Effectively manages competing priorities and can re-prioritize tasks as needed.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a small team-oriented environment while also carrying out responsibilities with considerable independence.
Ability to read and write in French and Spanish is preferred but not required.
Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Eligibility to work in the United States.
COMPENSATION AND CULTURE
Salary Range: $68,000-85,000 depending on experience.
