Iḷisaġvik College in the city of Utqiaġvik, Alaska seeks an experienced and collaborative leader to serve as its next Dean of Academic Affairs. The Dean of Academic affairs is responsible for providing academic leadership that fosters excellence in teaching and learning for students. The Dean of Academic affairs provides strategic leadership for the College that includes supporting and guiding Iḷisaġvik’s vision, mission, goals and student learning outcomes.

Iḷisaġvik College is one of America’s leading Tribal Colleges, providing post-secondary academic, vocational and technical education in a learning environment that perpetuates and strengthens Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions. The ideal candidate will be an approachable, collegial and collaborative leader with a demonstrated track record of mentoring and supporting faculty and staff development as well as monitoring and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Dean of Academic Affairs serves Ilisagvik’s mission of building strong communities through education and training via: strategic leadership, enhancing teaching and learning outcomes, and day-to-day administration. The Dean of Academic Affairs is responsible fostering a positive team atmosphere that supports faculty and staff to focus on the student first so that the students are successful. The Dean will provide mentoring and support to faculty and staff development as well as monitoring and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes. This includes coordinating faculty hires, professional development, professional reviews, budget oversight, and the design and review for a relevant curriculum. The Dean of Academic Affairs oversees the following divisions: Instructional Programming (Academic and Career & Technical Education), Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, and Library Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall Leadership, Administrative, and Relationship Responsibilities:

Maintain and provide effective leadership and communication with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders; serve as an advocate for faculty, staff, and students.
Advise and represent the President in academic matters as needed; provides and prepares presentations and reports as requested.
Oversee various department committees, serve on professional committees, and represent the college on external committees in an effective manner.
Collaborate and help foster relationships between faculty and the student services team to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
Lead faculty orientation onboarding and continued faculty/staff development and mentorship. Evaluate faculty development and continuous improvement of instructional programming.
Meet regularly and be available to faculty/staff with the willingness to attend classes and other academic and community events.
Lead the division’s annual budget and work closely with department leads to ensure fiscal oversight.
Establish and maintain external partnerships with other institutions/entities for the purpose of instruction.
Review, develop, and implement instructional policies and procedures.

Accreditation, Assessment, Reporting, and Evaluation Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies for academic and construction trades programming and certification such as (NWCCU, IACBE, NCCER); supports and identifies leads to serve as the Accreditation Liaison Officer, accreditation committee lead, and coordinates/reviews documents and reports to maintain successful accreditation compliance.
Ensure the offering of high quality, effective, and relevant curriculum and instruction; evaluates develops, and/or adjusts program offerings as needed and approved to support student and program needs.
Develop, monitor, and maintain a systematic evaluation plan for the academic programs to ensure congruence with national standards, professional guidelines, or expected competencies and to evaluate program outcomes.
Ensure administration of assessment programming software for assessment and reports (i.e. WEAVE, and other Student Information System (SIS) tracking); delegates accordingly to ensure meaningful data is gathered and disseminated in a timely manner.
Provide leadership, support, and mentoring for the institutions annual institutional research reports and overall data measures. Works to monitor and enhance institutional performance by monitoring and assessing momentum metrics that drive student success.
Ensure timely preparation, clear content, and dissemination of the annual course catalog, course schedules.
Comply with college policies, procedures, and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Minimum three years demonstrated professional management experience in a post-secondary setting.
Minimum four years of demonstrated teaching experience at the instructor level or above in a post-secondary institution; Faculty credentials commensurate with the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
Accreditation experience in a higher education institutional setting.
One year of demonstrated work experience in a rural Alaskan environment.
One year of demonstrated experience coordinating and promoting distance delivery education.
Inspire faculty and staff to work together to build and sustain outstanding academic programs with the capacity for growth.
Effective oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
Quick-thinking and solution-oriented; strong team and time management skills.
Take initiative and make progress amidst competing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction in promoting student retention, academic, and advising.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and promote career technical education to prepare workforce programing in a community college setting.
Develop and maintain professional work relationships with administrators, co-workers, faculty, students and the general college community.
Ability to monitor and assess skills to help ensure necessary enhancements and/or corrective actions are taken.
Evidence of and commitment to promoting and sustaining diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership, teaching, and mentoring
Technological savvy, demonstrated ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule and travel periodically.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

PhD or equivalent.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

Accreditation experience in a higher education institutional setting.

Valid driver’s license.

Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance – Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
