Girl Scouts of Alaska offers a robust benefits package with PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD and Life Insurance, and a 403(b) with employer match. Pay for our Development Specialist starts at $26.00 per hour.

The Development Specialist is responsible for managing the council’s fund development data management systems (including data entry and digital and physical filing) and providing support to the council’s overall fundraising program, including annual events. The position also creates communications to share the mission of Girl Scouts and steward Girl Scouts of Alaska’s supporters, to include things like the annual impact report, weekly thank you cards, and event announcements. The position works to create alumni relations activities, focusing on Lifetime Memberships and creating Girl Scouts Alumni events. The Development Specialist also provides administrative support to the Board of Directors and CEO, in achieving fund development goals while conducting communications, operations, and coordination specific to GSAK’s board of directors and its committees.

The Development Specialist will help to foster a culture of philanthropy in the organization and advance philanthropy on behalf of Girl Scouts of Alaska. They are responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and oversight of fundraising events, Board support, and alumni relations activities. They assist the Development Director in fundraising goals including donor database management, communications, campaigns, and grant management.

You Are:

Committed to the policies and mission of the Girl Scout organization and willing to become a Girl Scout member.
Able to adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) fundraising code of ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.
Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, board, those interested in Girl Scouts, and staff.
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Able to develop volunteer networks and act as a liaison to community groups and funders.
Organized with an attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

Understanding of and committed to organizational diversity.

You Need:

Experience in fund raising or development.
Experience using donor database systems (preferred).
An understanding of the mission and vision of Girl Scouts and the ability to share this mission and vision with the general public.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and maintain attention to details.
Access to reliable transportation. This position will regularly be required to travel outside of the council office during working hours.
Strong communications skills, willingness to talk on the phone, and ability to share stories to promote the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience.
Social media marketing, Canva, InDesign experience/willingness to learn (preferred).

You Will:

Sit at a desk and work on a computer and talk on the phone for long periods of time.
Manually operate office equipment.
Lift and carry at least 35 lbs.
Complete an annual background check .
