Job Description : Position Summary: The Family Advocacy Outreach Coordinator/Victim Advocate (FAPAOCVA) is responsible for promoting awareness and prevention of domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect through a variety of educational programs and support services to strengthen Military Families and enhanced resiliency. Work is performed in support of military service members, Department of Defense civilians, and their family members primarily in the Ft. Belvoir military community. The (FAPAOCVA) is responsible for Education and Outreach efforts, Commander and Troop Education, Staff Training, classes and workshops.Job Responsibilities: The FAPOCVA shall assist in the following:1) Updating and maintain the strategic plan of the FAP by providing classes to units and the community related to domestic violence and child abuse prevention.2) Will be responsible for marketing and coordinate the programs through the unit commanders, and will also be responsible for all aspects of FAP event planning.3) Will also provide victim advocacy services to victims of domestic abuse by participating in on-call rotation, responding to crisis, and maintain an active caseload.4) Will also assist with contacting victims of domestic abuse in a timely fashion and inputting information into appropriate Army and IMCOM G-9 FMWR program approved databases.5) Will serve as the VA liaison with the installation FAPM and coordinate with the MTF to ensure that comprehensive victim services and training are provided through a coordinated community response and avoid replication of services.6) Will be aware of and adhere to policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and protection of information under the restricted reporting policy for incidents of Domestic Abuse, and always inform the victim of limitations of confidentiality.7) Must establish a strong relationship with community resources not only to refer when needed, but keep appropriate documentation that communicate when agencies are not addressing needs of FAP clients.8) Needs to have daily follow up with victims until the crisis ends and as necessary during court involvement and administrative proceedings.9) The follow-up with victims should continue at least monthly after the crisis subsides for the first three months after the incident. Contact has to be thoroughly documented in the case file.10) Shall expeditiously refer cases in a confidential manner to pre-authorized personnel and request that the client signs a Release of Information (ROI) Form, authorizing the release of information to organizations outside of the Army and/or when otherwise specified in Army or DoD guidance.Education and Experience Requirements1) At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in the area of Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, Nursing, Counseling or Behavioral Science, Education or Community/Public Health from an accredited university.2) Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in family and children’s services or community organization, one year of which is in Family violence. Experience in the area of Family violence must be documented in the following areas: (1) Dynamics of child and spouse abuse, (2) Ability to develop and implement a training program, (3) Knowledge of individual and group dynamics, (4) Knowledge of issues and concerns related to the military and the dynamics of abuse on the military family.3) Shall possess strong ability to present information orally and in written format (i.e., marketing) in English.Preferred Experiences1) Effective and professional communication skills;2) Spanish language skills are a plus.Travel and Physical RequirementsLocal travel (DMV) required to clients’ locations. Requires standing, sitting, and floor activities. Must be able to physically assist clients, which may require lifting or physically guiding them.
