Position : HR Asssistant

Job Description : Under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Assistant is responsible for providing support services to Blood Bank of Hawaii employees and managers in the areas of human resources, benefits and payroll.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment

a. Posts vacancy announcements internally and externally.

b. Screen applicants for interviews.

— Determines applicant qualification, applicant’s needs compared with BBH needs and job suitability.

— Provides applicant with job requirements, job duties, hours of work, basic Blood Bank of Hawaii information, benefits package, and starting salary range.

— Refers qualified applicants to department supervisor/director for second interview.

— Does reference checks for applicants that department supervisor is considering for hire and notifies the department supervisor of the outcome.

— Offers positions to applicants upon selection by the department supervisor.

— Schedules post-offer drug screening and physical examinations.

— Coordinates applicant start date with the department and conducts new hire processing.

c. Contacts temporary agencies as needed.

Payroll

a. Processes bi-weekly payroll. Updates salary changes, transfers, new hires, terminations, benefit changes, direct deposit information, garnishments.

b. Processes manual checks for terminations and advances.

c. Communicates information to Payroll Tax Service regarding Temporary Disability payments for Third Party Sick Pay reporting.

d. Distributes W-2s at year-end.

e. Accurately updates payroll database on a timely basis.

f. Completes payroll related surveys which BBH opts to participate in.

All Other related duties

a. Retains tickler file for DOT license renewals.

b. Undertakes special projects as assigned.

c. Assists with employee relations events.

Knowledge/Education

1. High school graduate.

2. College graduate preferred, with courses degree in HRM
Experience

1. 4 years previous human resources experience preferred.
Skills

1. Good analytical, assessment, judgment and problem-solving skills with ability to recognize areas of concern review/analyze data, clarify information that is needed and come up with possible solutions and resolve.

2. Good oral, reading and written communication skills with the ability to give detailed information or instructions, ask questions that can be easily understood, and read, comprehend and apply information contained in written materials and take technical material and put into language that can be easily understood orally or in writing.

3. Good listening skills with the ability to receive and comprehend detailed oral or written information.

4. Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work with and service diverse individuals and provide excellent customer service.

5. Detail oriented, accurate with good follow-through.

6. Good organizational and time management skills with ability to maintain composure and professionalism when working under time constraints

7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate and meet goals/objectives

8. Proficient in working in Microsoft Office (WORD, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook).
