Job Description : POSITION TITLE: Lifeguard ISTATUS: Regular Part TimeSALARY: 2A $20.42/hrFLSA: Non-ExemptPCN: PR0121UNION STATUS: 01 APEAREPORTS TO: Facility SupervisorPOSITIONS SUPERVISED: NoneCloses: Open Until FilledBASIC FUNCTION: Provide for the safety of spectators, participants, and staff involved in aquatic activities and present aquatic instructional programs.TYPICAL DUTIES: 1. Monitor and enforce proper safety rules and activities in swimming area.2. Register students and perform aquatic instruction at all levels of swimming programs and other special conditioning activities.3. Perform lifesaving and first aid procedures as appropriate for the situation.4. Provide routine clean-up, sanitizing, and general maintenance in pool and locker room areas.5. Perform chlorine and PH water testing.6. Complete daily attendance and revenue reports as instructed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Eighteen years of age at time of employment.2. Must possess and maintain certification in Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid, Lifeguarding/Water Park Training, and CPR-PR as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent). (ORIGINAL CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE PROVIDED AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW).3. All qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate all lifesaving and first aid skills required by the position.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES1. Six months of experience in aquatic instruction, class preparation, and organization preferred.2. Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, tactful, and courteous manner.OTHER1. This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.2. This position requires a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting.3. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.JOB CONTACTS: Ordinary business contact with employees in own division and continuous, routine public contact.JOB RESPONSIBILITY: Does not supervise; performs mostly routine duties with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.WORK ENVIRONMENT: A recreation facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions with minor accident probability; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).
