Job Description : Position SummaryPassionate about animals and conservation? ZooTampa is looking for a part time Manatee Stranding Assistant to work with our animal care team.Duties include, but are not limited to assist in the development and organization ZooTampa’s Manatee Stranding Team under the direction of the Manatee Stranding Coordinator. In addition, provide support for ZooTampa’s Manatee Critical Care Center to include daily manatee care, assisting with manatee medical treatments and procedures, and community outreach as applicableWho We AreZooTampa at Lowry Park is one of the most popular zoos in the southeastern U.S., with over 1 million visitors annually. This could include, verification of stranding, in water rescue support and manatee transport to a critical care facilityAssist the Manatee Stranding Response Coordinator in the develop a ZooTampa Manatee Stranding Team to include essential manatee care staff, additional animal care staff and volunteers, to be able to quickly activate when requested by FWCAssist in the development of ZT SOPs and training program for all field activities.Collect and manage data according to FWC standards for manatee rehabilitation partnershipLog hours and expenses for grant and program accountingAssist with manatee releasesAbility to operate and maintain rescue vehicle and field based equipmentAssist with manatee care, health assessments, observations and medical treatments as needed to support the Zoo’s manatee team and hospitalCollaborate with the VP of conservation and VP of Education for community outreach opportunitiesOther duties as assignedWhat are we looking for?Qualifications and ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; College degree in biology or related science preferred.Minimum of one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceSCUBA and First-Aid Certification for specific areasBasic knowledge of zoonotic diseasesKnowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet softwareMust have good written and oral communication skillsMust be self-motivated and goal-orientedMust be able to maintain discretion with confidential informationAbility to develop positive relationships with members of all department, and to work effectively alone and in group settingAbility to complete projects in a reasonable time frame, to the complete satisfaction of managementDeal courteously and tactfully with employees, peers, superiors, and the general publicKnowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautionsMust have the ability to follow specific instructions and also be comfortable self-directing within assigned parametersMust be flexible and have the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude with the publicOther RequirementsConducts all activities in alignment with Zoo Tampa standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfareAbility to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold)Possess visual, hearing and other sensory and cognitive capacity appropriate for animal care and general safety practicesAbility to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructionsMust be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking, and to engage in physical laborMust have ability to navigate paved as well as rough terrain on foot and by vehicleMust be comfortable on and around the water for long hoursMust be able to safely and effectively engage in heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds)Ability to work long hours and varying shifts, including nights and week-end, to support special events and the needs of the collectionOur Perks at ZooTampaPet insuranceRetirement 403(b) planEmployee Assistance ProgramFree gym membershipFree membership to the Zoo, MOSI, and the Florida AquariumFree or discounted admission to many attractions in FloridaDiscounts on food, beverage, and merchandiseDiscounted auto insuranceAnd so much more!Job Type: Part-time
