Job Description : Job Title: Law ClerkDepartment: First Party Homeowners InsuranceSummary Responsible for researching, compiling, comparing, and organizing legal documents for lawyers.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.· Research issues before the court· Write opinions based on research· Participate in the formation of case law· Manage exhibits submitted into evidence· Interact with chambers staff, litigants and the public· Assist with settlement conferences and disputes· Review briefs submitted by the parties· Verify cited legal authority· Draft a variety of legal documents including trial briefs, memoranda and orders· Research and analyze complex legal issues in civil and criminal appeals.· Keep abreast of changes in the law· Review complaints, petitions, motions, or pleadings· Review dockets of pending litigation· Prepare affidavits of documents and maintain document files and case correspondence.Competencies To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Analytical – Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
