Position : Specimen Transporter
Job Description : Responsibilities:
Retrieves, sorts, tracks, and delivers specimens from hospital floors, outpatient lab areas, Family Health Centers, and Reference Lab clients.
Uses the Laboratory Computer System to verify specimen receipt, to access test results, and to look up other relevant information.
Verifies specimen receipt in the appropriate laboratory computer systems.
Communicates and documents essential information accurately and in a timely manner to all appropriate personnel.
Complies with safety procedures and regulations.
Performs problem solving functions (i.e. identifies discrepancies) and maintains documentation as necessary.
Education:
High School Diploma / GED.
Certifications:
None required.
Work Experience:
Six months to one year of customer service experience required, preferably in a health care setting.
Computer or data entry experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk extensively.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
