Job Description : Teacher AssistantContact with others: Reports to and receives general direction from the classroom Head Teacher. Supervises no one. Has contact with children and families.Purpose of Position: To assist the director and teachers in routine program activities and the supervision of children.Essential Job Functions: Assists the teachers in carrying out program activities. Prepares and maintains classroom materials and supplies. Prepares various activity areas.Assists in the arrangement and care of all classroom equipment in assigned areas.Assists the children with routine activities such as naps, meals, bathroom, and dressing.Performs general housekeeping duties such as cleaning up after meals and snacks, maintaining the bathrooms in a sanitary condition, and keeping the area in a neat and organized condition.Record appropriate information on children’s records as requested by the teacher.Speaking, hearing, interacting with others, seeing in limited light, seeing objects at a distance, seeing objects peripherally, distinguishing colors/odors, reading, writing, organizing, sitting, walking, running, bending/twisting/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, crawling, grasping with hands and gripping, lifting/carrying more than 50 pounds, work in/exposure to inclement weather, work at heights, exposure to infection, germs, or contagious disease, cleaning chemicals, exposure to blood, bodily fluid, or materials potentially contaminated by blood or bodily fluidsQualifications: Job Knowledge:Must be 18 years of age. Must be able to read and write.Experience:Previous childcare experience is preferred but not required. Must have demonstrated through past work experience the qualities of dependability and capable of meeting schedules.Working Conditions: Physical Demand:Requires good general health. Will be exposed to a wide range of children’s diseases. Involves activities that relate to caring for children such as walking.
