Position Objectives:
At the direction of the Waste Water Utilities Foreman, ensures the routine performance of the City’s water plant; provides adequate water testing to safeguard the community’s health. Serves as lead water treatment and water distribution operator with supervisory duties over other water plant operators.

**THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO MANDATORY DRUG TESTING PER TITLE 49 CFR, PART 40 **

This position is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, applicants of safety-sensitive are required (even if not ultimately hired) to provide the City of Bethel with signed written releases requesting USDOT drug testing and alcohol records for all previous USDOT covered employers that the applicant has worked for, within the last 2 years. Failure to do so will result in the employment offer being rescinded. All applicants will also answer as to whether or not they have tested positive for drug/alcohol use in the past or if they have previously refused to test on a pre-employment test screening for any USDOT covered employer within the last two years.

Duties and Responsibilities:Serves as supervisory lead water treatment and water distribution operator;
Oversees water plant operations to maintain water quality parameters; ensures monitoring and testing to meet State and Federal water quality regulations; responsible for associated documentation and logs;
Performs maintenance and repair work on water treatment and distribution systems, to include emergency call-out as needed to maintain the continuity of water services;
Reviews documentation and logs for accuracy and completeness; ensures documentation is in compliance with regulatory requirements;
Performs all required laboratory testing and sample collection
Handles hazardous chemicals and mixing operations for chemical treatment of water
Assists in filling water trucks;
Assists with disconnections of water services;
Assists Utilities Maintenance workers as needed;
Participates in required training and maintains professional certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical maintenance;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers

Minimum Requirements:State of Alaska Level 2 Certifications for Water Treatment & Level 1 Water Distribution or other state equivalent certification;
Valid Alaska Drivers License

Desirable Training and Experience:High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent;
Level 2 water treatment certification;
Level 1 water distribution certification;
Minimum 3 years experience in water operations;
Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical maintenance;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers;
