Positions may be eliminated, moved, or combined should enrollment not meet projections.Job Summary: EAST is 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Funded summer program for STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). We strive to spark imagination and foster lifelong curiosity in the STEM fields by offering hands-on projects, field trips and enrichment explorations designed to engage students’ connection to school and STEM careers. Evaluation shows that EAST contributes to our youth’s interest in STEM, promotes connection to caring adults who serve as role models, reduces the achievement gap, and prepares students for 21st century work environments. EAST serves 80-100 students in 3rd – 7th grade from several Title I feeder schools.General Responsibilities/Duties: EAST STEM education teachers will oversee the day to day success of camp for the duration of the summer program. This position’s responsibility is to create a safe and fun environment, provide mentorship, engage with meaningful, student-focused content, and coordinate with community partners. Teachers will create and facilitate STEM-based lessons in both a week-long field of study and up to 15 enrichment lessons. Teachers will be responsible for classes of 10 – 13 students. They must have the ability to differentiate instruction, implement positive classroom management and communicate scientific and mathematical thinking are essential.All EAST teachers take part in a culture of teamwork, flexibility, and communication to create a positive atmosphere for students and their families.Salary: $39.80/hour (B+0 in accordance with the FEA negotiated agreement)Work Schedule: May 25, 2022 – June 30, 2022Work Day: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PMStudent Contact Days and Hours: June 6 – June 29, 2022, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PMJob QualificationsThe following are required:Valid State of Alaska Initial, Professional or Master teacher certificate with an elementary or middle school endorsementAt least one year/one summer experience in a 21st CCLC grant funded programAbility to demonstrate high quality STEAM lesson/activity planning and implementationAbility to model scientific and design thinking skillsExperience leading STEM and science-based hands-on activitiesAbility to collaborate with teaching team and supervisorsAssist with implementation of the camp programAbility to work with students to maintain positive behaviors in the classroom settingCreate and implement unique STEM-based programming for campersBe present and engaged at all activities and off site field tripsOne or more evening event may be requiredThe following are preferred:Highly Qualified in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math, or experience teaching STEM.STEM cross content lesson design and teaching experience in a school, summer or after school program.Familiarity with and strategies to support Social and Emotional Learning.Equipment to be used:Applicants must have experience using iPads, 3-D printer, robotics, electronics.Physical and Mental DemandsThe physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Requires near vision to write and read printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Must be able to use carts, ladders, dollies, and stools to assist in moving or shelving items. Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers may also be required. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.FEA Negotiated Agreement, Article 105, II states:Extended Day ProgramsTeachers teaching a classroom of students within a classroom setting in a District-approved curriculum at an extended day program (e.g., afterschool) or an extended year program (e.g., regular education summer school) established by the District on or after September 1, 1998, will be paid at the B+O rate of the salary schedule for hours worked. The Golden Heart Academy educational program, the cooperative education summer program, and the special education summer program were established before 1998. Positions will be posted according to normal hiring procedures per Article 401.
