Job Summary:
Serve the program needs of the targeted population of students with disabilities in the Accessibility Services program. Exercise overall responsibility for ensuring equal access for students with disabilities to all educational opportunities offered by the university by determining eligibility and ensuring that qualified individuals receive reasonable and appropriate accommodations. In concert with HPU faculty and staff, lead disability accommodations process, develop and implement targeted enrollment and retention services, and conduct ongoing student and program assessment. Provide generalist academic advising, career and educational counseling, as well as other services which enhance student academic success. Report to the Manager of the Center for Academic Success.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or related field from an accredited university.
Two years’ experience working with students/persons with disabilities.
Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
Must have reliable transportation to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.
Comprehensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2009; the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other federal and state laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for HPU. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, prospective employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an FDA-approved vaccine. HPU complies with federal and state laws on reasonable accommodations related to this requirement.
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Psychology, Higher Education, Counseling, Special Education or related field from an accredited university.
Background in the field of academic counseling; certification in disability program management.
Management experience in a higher education disability program.
Three years experience in disability services and/or higher education advising/
Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills with a positive and empathetic approach.
Experience with the management of confidential records and personal counseling.
Experience supervising student workers or other personnel.
Other Qualifications:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance are not available for this position.
Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
The successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
Proof of COVID vaccination is required
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
1. Coordinate University support services with disabilities and educationally disadvantaged student populations (70%)
Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures relating to disability management for students.
Review physician/psychologist certifications for ADA-status eligibility and determine appropriate accommodations. Ensure proper documentation according to federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and works with the university to create and maintain policies and procedures that represent the best interest of both the student and the university according to current regulations.
Serve as the primary point of contact to ensure that students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations, including auxiliary aid provisions and access to all university services.
Coordinates adaptive technology acquisition and use.
Work with intake staff to ensure the accurate and timely notification of appropriate faculty and staff (by written correspondence) of students’ ADA statuses and approved accommodations, as well as tracking and managing confidential information regarding disabled students in Banner and other systems.
Provide consultative services to students, faculty, and staff regarding ADA and accommodations to ensure program effectiveness and legal compliance. Identify and assist in resolving any problems and concerns relating to ADA administration.
Prepare compliance reports and update the ADA portion of the Affirmative Action Plan as needed.
Provide ongoing training and assistance to administration and supervisors, staff and faculty on matters as it relates to students, including the latest developments in ADA laws, issues, and programs.
Engage in professional development and scholarly activities related to students with disabilities in the post-secondary education field in order to provide quality leadership for the University.
2. Coordinate Academic Coaching Program and Accessibility Operations (20%)
Oversee Accessibility Coordinator and Peer Academic Coaches to provide support for students with disabilities and ensure smooth office operations.
Meet regularly (ideally weekly) with them for group in-service training, progress check-ins, case discussions, and/or one-on-ones.
3. Manage Accessibility Services financial budget and activities (5%)
Analyze financial statements and keep detailed records.
Develop budget proposals and make necessary adjustments for maximum fiscal responsibility.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
Contributes to strategic initiatives within the Center for Academic Success
Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
Assists with seasonal peaks.
