Position : Accountant
Job Description : Starting Salary: $5,250/mo. – $6,169/mo. (DOQ)Soos Creek Water and Sewer District, a public agency located in Renton WA, is accepting applications for the position of Accountant. Under the direction of the Finance Manager, performs a variety of accounting functions to maintain and produce accounting reports/records. Assists in treasury functions, the preparation of annual financial statements, state excise tax audits, and annual audits performed by the State Auditor’s Office. Assists the Finance Manager with various accounting and finance projects such as budgeting, rate setting, the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs) and other miscellaneous duties of the Finance Department. Assists in customer service functions where needed. This position is backup for payroll and accounts payable.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Possess a clear understanding of billing and collection processes.2. Possess an understanding of budgeting, accounting, and finance reporting systems.3. Possess an understanding of the laws and procedures governing public sector payroll and reporting requirements, accounting systems, BARS and municipal budgeting procedures.4. Proficient in MS Office Excel, Word and Outlook.5. Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy.6. Flexibility in accepting work assignments.Ability to:1. Perform mathematical computations and balances financial data.2. Perform research and data analysis, and reports finding and conclusions.3. Accurately enter information into the computer system.4. Create and maintain spreadsheets, create letters, perform mail merge and utilize Outlook for communication and organization purposes.5. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.6. Resolve inquiries and complaints from customers, vendors, external sources and other District departments in accordance with policies and procedures; reviews and approves adjustments to accounts as necessary.7. Use good judgment to establish processing cutoffs and prioritizes work to meet strict deadlines.8. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and records.9. Understand and apply knowledge of internal control procedures.10. Organize and maintain files and records accurately and efficiently. Ability to retrieve files quickly.11. Work harmoniously with the public and District employees.12. Prioritize work and demonstrate good organizational skills.13. Work well under pressure and meet required deadlines.14. Recognize what needs to be done and the willingness to accomplish such work without direction on each task.15. Quickly comprehend and carry out instructions.16. Maintain clear, concise and accurate records, and report on items that need attention.17. Handle multiple priorities, maintain control, and able to handle non-structured days.18. Provide regular, reliable and punctual attendance.Education and Experience:1. AA degree in Accounting, supplemented with courses in business administration.2. 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance, performing analytical tasks and projects. Preferably with a government agency.3.
