Position : Deputy Chief of Staff

Job Description : Nature of Work
Highly responsible administrative and managerial work in areas including but not limited to: tracking and addressing constituent casework; planning, organizing, and executing specialized projects and functions; planning and managing social media content and profiles; research, analyses, and preparation of memorandums related to policy and in response to events; and other tasks as may be assigned by the Mayor and Chief of Staff. This position is part of the staff of the Office of the Mayor, working with and reporting to the Mayor’s Chief of Staff as well as other Commission staff, and responsible for tactical execution of Mayoral strategies and vision.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
Carries out directives from the Mayor
Supports and partners with the Chief of Staff and other members of the Executive Team to carry out the Mayor’s directives
Deals with the public in handling various complaints and/or requests
Resolves or assists in the resolution of citizen complaints
Reviews and responds to or makes recommendations concerning incoming correspondence, memos, reports and other materials
Prepares letters and emails to residents, other memos and reports
Represents the Mayor as needed before Committees, Boards, Citizen Groups and other agencies and/or organizations
Manages the Mayor’s social media profiles
Performs related tasks as required
Minimum Requirements
College degree in Public Administration or related field
Extensive administrative experience and responsibility including finance, budgeting, administration, project management, problem solving, decision making, or policy formulation/recommendation or equivalent
Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
Spanish speaking preferred

Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, or crawling
Some reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
For all positions:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all state, county and city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach
For all technical, professional, supervisory and managerial positions:

Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City’s strategic plan.
