$7,080.00 – $11,807.00 per month (EM-03)
NOTE: Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant’s exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval.

The immediate vacancy is in the Office of the Superintendent, Administrative Assistant Office.
Job Summary:
Responsible for managing litigation support in the Department of Education (DOE) overseeing and administering a statewide departmental litigation processing function requiring coordination of work with various division of the Office of the Attorney General to ensure that cases are prepared and executed in a timely manner for the DOE. The sole position in this class is involved in program development, budget formulation, and the development of policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to litigation- related measures, and assures the proper accounting and tracking of all DOE litigation cases.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently.
Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Education Requirement:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
Except for the substitutions provided for, applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described in the statements below and in the amounts shown or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
General Experience Requirement:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience which involved significant responsibility for performing and/or participating in the managerial aspects of a program or operation. Such experiences must have involved participation in program development, budget formulations; development of policies, procedures, rules and regulations; and evaluating program operations and recommending improvements to meet program/operational goals and objectives.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
Two (2) years of work experience in a law office, court system or other work setting which demonstrated knowledge of: legal principles and processes; court rules and procedures; civil procedure, evidence and other related legal matters; report writing; and ability to: perform critical thinking requiring an understanding and knowledge of legal principles and processes; conduct extensive research and be able to present in both verbal and written format; analyze information relevant to litigation and prepare clear memorandum.
Substitutions Allowed:
1. Possession of a degree in law may substitute for the Specialized Experience Requirement.
2. License to practice law in at least one state may substitute for the Specialized Experience Requirement.
Driver’s License Requirement:
Applicants must possess a current valid driver’s license.
