The UW Medical Center – Women’s Health Center has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift, MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The Medical Assistant (MA) assists health care professionals in the examination and treatment of patients by performing duties such as preparation of patient and environment for treatment, conducting basic laboratory and electrocardiogram tests, care of the patient post-treatments, patient education, and clerical reception functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINIC FLOW

Monitors and manages the flow of patients in the clinic throughout the day.

Demonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritizes work tasks for the needs of the clinic.

PATIENT CARE PROCEDURES

Performs direct patient care procedures according to their level of education, certification and clinic protocol.

Provides skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinic.

Maintains sterile technique during treatments and special procedures as indicated.

Chaperones as required by Provider

Assist with the following procedures: colposcopy, skin biopsy, LEEP, endometrial biopsy, IUD insertion and or removal, D & C

Perform the following lab exams: urine dip, pregnancy test

PATIENT SPECIFIC CARE

Provides accurate, appropriate, and culturally sensitive education to clinic patients.

Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.

PATIENT CARE – SAFETY

Maintains infection control standards including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective attire.

Responds appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situations.

COORDINATION OF CARE

Assists providers and clinic RNs in the maintenance of clinic processes to ensure timely follow-up on reported test results.

Assists with coordination of care including clarifying patient follow-up and scheduling patients appointments.

DOCUMENTATION

Accurately and thoroughly documents provision of patient care in a timely manner.

Maintains, completes and submits required clinic reports and audits in a timely manner.

GENERAL CLINIC DUTIES

Supports staff as required by clinic needs.

Answers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs calls appropriately.

Responds to patient issues and refers issues as appropriate.

Responds to e-care messages in scope of practice and direct messages to appropriate provider.

Assist with prior authorizations and medication refills.

BILLING PRACTICES

Demonstrates understanding of billing practices.

REQUIREMENTS

Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;

OR

equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.

DESIRED

Direct patient care in ambulatory care, women’s health care, preferred.

Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.

Stable work history, including excellent attendance.
